Middle-aged white people now account for a third of all suicides in the U.S., a new government report shows.
Suicide is the nation's 10th leading cause of death, and the overall rate rose 24 percent in 15 years, according to the report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Suicides have long been most common among white people — particularly older white males. But most striking in the new report is the growth in whites ages 45 to 64.
They were a third of suicide deaths in 2014, up from about a quarter in 1999.
"The findings in this report are extremely concerning," said Nadine Kaslow, an Emory University researcher and past president of the American Psychological Association.
The CDC data — released Friday — provides a detailed look at the latest year's suicide statistics, and a broader look at how much the situation has changed over 15 years.
There were nearly 43,000 U.S. suicides in 2014. More than 14,000 of them were middle-aged whites — twice the combined total for all blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Pacific Islanders, American Indians, and Alaska Natives.
In other terms — a group that represents 18 percent of the U.S. population accounted for 33 percent of the suicides.

I’ve read that there’s a lot of addiction in this cohort, and IMO that cause despair. Quite sad.
I am recently retired military & convinced that the rising suicide rate among veterans & retirees has the same cause: overprescribing of antidepressants & a complete deemphasis on spiritual sources of solace.
I was talked into going on some anti-depressants a few years ago (recovering from a major illness). In the first six months on that stuff I had 5 traffic accidents where my record was completely spotless for the 25 years before that. I told my doc to take a hike, threw all that crap out and haven't had even a close call in the two years since. That stuff is definitely poison.

And the breakdown is attributable to the seeds of the 60’s and 70’s sexual revolutuon, and the penchant for divorce among, specifically, women, who have industrialized the process, leaving middle aged men destitute and shunned....starting over at 55.

I know, I did. I went through some bad periods when the calls and emails started drying up at one point but I’m a strong person and my wife helped me get through it.
Luckily I got a new job almost two months to the day I was laid off but I’m lucky. Very lucky. Well, I’m good at what I do too.
It is VERY easy in this country to go from being on top of the world to losing absolutely everything you have. Not everyone can deal with that kind of pressure.
Seeing another spring is enough for me. I've been blessed with being a person who has a great family but who enjoys the time I am alone. The Peregrines are in the steeple across the street, the geese are breeding on the canal, I can get a double bottle of drinkable Merlot from Chile for $10.99 and my health ain't bad at the minute. I wish those who were checking out could hand me their extra years before they go.
Having said that, I understand that clinical depression is no joke.

But, generally, demographics with a high suicide rate also have a high sense of responsibility. They are not quick to blame others.
Funny but sad and accurate remark.
The people who are raised to be responsible citizens and never disgrace their families, take handouts or let their families go without are the most vulnerable. The people who take the most responsibility feel any social disfunction standing in the way of their being able to do their duties as men feel the disfunction the most keenly. They are more likely to kill themselves than kill others, riot and loot, etc.
And when the economy sucks dead dogs for almost ten years (while lavishly supporting illegals, unqualified workers, "refugees" and career criminals in jails or in government) and there are no honest jobs for the little guy, things look hopeless.
And ohhh how they hate us. I pulled out in the road 4 Lane towing a gooseneck trailer loaded with wood in front of obama the other day. Traffic was heavy and one car in a gap in the traffic should not pose a problem for he or for me besides he was still well down the road and no where close. Well ...after getting straightened out in the right hand lane and while picking up speed I heard the horn barrage and got a vigorous middle finger salute through the side glass and over the back of the seat out the back glass as he passed in the Left lane.

A close friend and psychologist had asked me a couple years ago to construct a group excersize program based on light hearted comedy to get men not only physically active but socially and emotionally as well.
Most of her patients were depressed white guys, construction tradesmen no longer needed, other unemployed men who at one time had something significant to offer society but now over weight, probably drinking too much.
I’m finishing some training right now and assembling some of the outfits I will wear from drill instructor to Richard Simmons
Have already collected several special guests ie physical therapists, hypno therapist (very cute lady), self massage instructor who teaches back pain management through movement, stealth Yoga. One nicely endowed lady just to lead jumping jacks etc and more etc
Gonna be fun. Gonna laugh while we shed some fat.
