Trump: You Bet I Support Raising Taxes on the Rich
Townhall ^ | 04/21/2016 | Guy Benson

GUTHRIE: Do you believe in raising taxes on the wealthy?

TRUMP: I do. I do – including myself. I do.

That was...this morning, in an interview that featured some other controversial statements.  In fairness to Trump, he's been using the "raise taxes on rich people like me" line for months, embracing Obama-style class warfare tax gimmicks like the 'Buffet Rule.'  But raising taxes on anyone, an outcome Trump just re-endorsed, is not what his formal policy agenda proposes.  Just the opposite.  As we've seen on issues such immigrationabortion and foreign policy, Trump routinely makes clear that he isn't familiar with his own positions.  His stances aren't rooted in conviction, coherent ideological underpinnings or governing philosophy.  They "evolve" and morph depending on how Trump is feeling in any given moment.  Some professed conservatives may be perfectly comfortable voting for a tax-hiking, entitlement reform-opposing critic of Ronald Reagan's tax cuts.  But many Republicans, including a 62 percent majority of GOP primary voters thus far, aren't eager to turn the keys of the party over to someone whose record and current statements build a strong case against the proposition that he's reliable conservative -- or much of a conservative at all.  Parting thought: It's astonishing that this man appeals to people who loathe establishment "insider" types.  Earlier in the answer above, longtime Democratic donor chuckles with multimillionaire celebrity newsman Matt Lauer about all the fancy parties they've attended together with hotshot bankers in New York.  Man of the people.

Well, he cuts taxes on everyone in his official tax proposal so have no idea what he means here.

I believe he is referring to taxing carried interest at normal rate vice capital gains as is currently done. This will make high finance wiz kids (private equity and hedge fund managers) pay taxes like the rest of us.

And anyhow who says it’s supposed to be gay-rotica. It could equally well be beefcake for the women. They go for cowboys too.

Enjoy it, then.
Maybe you could cut it out, fold it neatly, and carry it in your Bible.

They got me to click on townhall since this thread won’t die. The headline is a total lie. He didn’t say you bet I do. He said I do, even on myself. Thats all he said. Nothing more. His tax plan is there - it’s ez to understand and eliminates carried interest which is the only hike I can find. Have all the fun u like but this is a masturbatory thread for Cruznadians, nothing more. It’s too late but the thread should have been pulled.

If you’d told me just one year ago, that Freepers would be defending raising taxes, abortion “rights” being included in the party platform, and perverts in the bathroom with little girls, I would have thought you were insane...

If you’d told me just one year ago that “principled conservative” Ted Cruz would stand with Barack Obama in the U. S. Senate I would have thought you were insane. But he did just that to enable the secret trade agenda of most lawless POTUS in history. Crazy, isn’t it?

Trump better watch that ... he owes Soros serious money.

2016 Republican presidential candidate and billionaire real estate investor Donald Trump borrowed money from progressive-leaning billionaire George Soros back in 2004 to build the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago.

In October of 2004, Thomas A. Corfman wrote in The Chicago Tribune, “Donald Trump has lined up three New York hedge funds, including money from billionaire George Soros, to invest $160 million in his Chicago skyscraper, a key piece in perhaps the largest construction financing in the city’s history, according to real estate sources and public documents. …

The $160 million investment is in the form of a mezzanine loan, a kind of second mortgage that typically charges a much higher interest rate than a first-mortgage construction loan.”

Trump and Soros were also listed as co-defendants in a 2008 RICO lawsuit disputing the sale of a Manhattan General Motors building. A report on the case by Pensions and Investments listed Trump and Soros as investors in the property.

Currently the very rich use carried interest, life insurance schemes, and even long term capital gains to pay a 15% tax rate rather than the 42% marginal rate on their ordinary income.

This is not transparent, it is not conservative. It is government doing social engineering in the tax code. How is that conservative in your eyes ?

His tax plan lowers the top rate from 42% to 25% on ordinary income. It eliminates the carried interest and life insurance schemes so those people will pay 25% rather than 15%. That is raising taxes on the rich. For people with income above $300,000 their long term capital gains will go up to 20% rather than 15%, so that is raising taxes on the rich as well.

That is hardly “soaking the rich”, however. It is eliminating the government preference for passive income. Eliminating government preferences from the tax code is conservative.

I am not a fan of Trump’s tax plan. It is still too progressive for my taste. It still allows way too many people a free ride.

But ... this article is flat out wrong. There are, in fact, tax increases for the rich in his published tax plan. His statements are not contradictory, and his plan is more conservative than the existing tax system — even if it doesn’t go as far as it should to a flat tax with no deductions or credits. Of course, Cruz’s tax plan is worse than the current system — a single rate plan on income but one that retains government preferences and then adds a huge 16% VAT on all purchases.

It is hardly his fault that the author — and you, apparently — have not bothered to read or understand his published tax plan. You complain about how “simple-minded” his plans are, but you are the one who failed to read the details of the plan. That is dishonest of you.

This is astronomical to you and I — but pocket change for the Donald and probably what Soros finds under his sofa cushions.

I love NY and I loved Rudy. He was Great for the city. Take your NY values @#$ and stuff it up your ###

Ease up fellow NY'er. There are indeed good things about NY.

It was Trump in '99 who blamed some of his liberal views including abortion on his NY background.

If you're going be mad at somebody for tying liberal values to NY values, I'd blame Trump. That was Trump's excuse. That was Cruz's point.

“Tax the Rich.”

You don’t think the rich should pay any taxes ?? Wow !

Most real conservatives would agree that the rich should pay taxes just like anybody else, no preferences for anybody.

What do you call your ideology where the rich pay nothing ? Is it “monarchy” that you support ? “Oligarchy” ? What ?

It is indeed amazing. I never thought I would see the day that conservatives were in the minority in FR. I guess we’re all pro abortion, pro tyrannies in the girls room, high taxes, protectionist Trumpets now.

Don't forget affirmative action, an expedited legalization amnesty that sounds like a Touchback Amnesty with maybe a citizenship amnesty and much more.
