Trump: I would change GOP platform on abortion
CNN ^ | 04/21/16 | David Wright

Posted on 04/21/2016 10:32:44 AM PDT by writer33

Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.

"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"

"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

Thing is, Biblical consequence for legal child sacrifice is invasion and conquest (wrath of God). So trying to rid the symptoms is simply not going to work.

You are so right!!!

The US is not a theocracy.

It is an inconsistent "theocracy." It still has Theocratic laws against murder, theft, and rape on the books.

Ardent supporter?

Yes. I remember thinking, "Wasn't that the name of Darrin's wife?"

“Ok, so you think Trump will lose.”

Let’s get to Trump being the nominee first. But for grins and giggles, yes I think Trump will lose. Everything being equal that is.

There are two things that can give Trump the Presidency. The first is Bernie Sanders voters staying home when Hillary is anointed the nominee. The second is Cruz voters not staying home. The perception is Trump will win NY, NJ, PA and the rust belt from Hillary. There is nothing to prove that to be true. Also, if you are looking at the “thousands” that come to his rallies, Bernie Sanders had 25k+ in NY last week. Many were there for the spectacle and to say they were at a Sanders rally. It also applies to Trump.

Until someone can break out an electoral map and show where Trump is going to pick up Blue states to beat Hillary, we are down to Ohio, which means the VP is Kacich. Which can also be the reason he is staying in the race.

All day, since the reports came out on the radio, about Trump, abortion and transgender bathrooms and path to citizenship for illegals,I have been agonizing about how to handle my switch from Cruz to Trump a few months ago now.

I was able to do that switch because Trump said he had changed, was pro-life and signed an op-ed about building a cullture of life. His position on respecting women. His courageous attack on illega immigration and its political supporters made my spirit rise with hope for our country.

Then today. And the news. And his own words.

Perhaps he is senile and forgot? Perhaps he is a sociopath and says whatever needs to to obtain what he wants? Perhaps he thinks us stupid?

Sigh.

Well, until the nominee is decided, I vote for corporatism, one world order, and all the things I hate that Cruz seems hell bent on shoving down our throat. He too slinks and double talks. Except on transgender bathrooms, abortion and path to citizenship.

America can have great deals and be non PC. It can be rich and powerful and win again.

But today Donald specified his pro-culture of life walk back.

Sigh.

No matter how rich. No matter how powerful. No matter how strong. With Donald’s weak sense of basic morality as made clear today with his very own lips, America will cease to be good. And then she cannot truly become great again.

My hopes are dashed.

Goodbye to the land of the free under the laws of nature and nature’s God.

Shame on you Donald. Grow a heart for the natural moral law.

Grow a heart for the American people Cruz. You both leave a lot to be desired.

Sad day America.

I’ve got a much better idea. How about cutting the unconstitutional $3.2 trillion out of the federal government and let people and the states do and prosper as they please so we can be a free, happy, and prosperous nation once again?

"This guy just doesn't get it. This alone makes him unsupportable to millions of Pro-Life Republicans. "

You would not support any Republican, or politician, who would allow for those exceptions? Under any circumstances?

I really enjoyed this thread and read it all. Thank you for posting. I especially enjoyed the comments of mrsmel and lonestar67. I, too, became sick of the “St. Cruz” remarks.

One way or the other, it is an issue that belongs to the states and the citizens of each state to decide as they see fit. Abortion is NOT a constitutionally authorized area for the feds.

False Premise Review Time — (not picking on anyone, just need to point out something important) —

Instead of advocating for loopholes and exceptions, which is an anti-life position whatever the cause of pregnancy and shows NO mercy for the living unborn, (which demonstrably feel pain and respond to positive and negative stimuli)—

HOW ABOUT a premise that the LAW will be enforced? Not crappy “case law” - real tort law.

How about swift sure unapologetic execution of rapists, including the criminally insane? The infamous Communist Goals include putting law enforcement in the hands of shrinks, away from the Constitutional legal system. How’s that working out for the USA?

Medicine has advanced—few mothers actually risk life in childbirth—the risk is a consequence that they must themselves bear, beginning back in Genesis chapter 3.

Permitting a “final solution” based on the alleged prevalence of need for the ‘medical exception’—

—as may be grossly exaggerated and loosely defined by unscrupulous quacks with financial and political vested interests—

AND grouped with the unpunished aftermath of criminal behavior (rape) is a manipulative Hegelian, Alinsky propaganda technique all too many have fallen for.

And Trump decides like his advisors have said. He really doesn’t want to be president. He rode his wave of popularity to fill his ego and now he’s done. I still think Cruz is a slimey scumbag but now Trump wants to be a liberal except for closing the borders? I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop in 5..4..3..2..1 shocking he decides that he doesn’t want to build a wall.

I would be ok with the morning after pill but getting an abortion at 20 weeks for the exceptions seems a bit much.

"If the right to life is denied, no other rights matter. Nor do walls, immigration policies, and taxes. Everything springs forth from the right to LIVE."

YES. And we have a right to LIVE without Islamic terrorism! Islamic terror has killed pregnant women who had no thought whatsoever of aborting their child. Islamic terror has slaughtered newborns! Children of every age! And what children Islam terrorists - like ISIS - don't kill, they train in propogating terror.

Therefore - on that moral imperative alone - stamping out the roots of Islamic terror are at the minimum every bit equal to you one-noters who seem unbearably blithe to what is actually going on in the world, or you just don't care.

How can he execute a unborn innocent baby?

How can you let an innocent mother die, especially if she has other children to care for??? Why is the baby's life more valuable than the mother???
