Trump: I would change GOP platform on abortion
CNN ^ | 04/21/16 | David Wright

Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.

"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"

"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

I think the number of pro-life republicans who don't support (or at least are neutral) at least one of the three exceptions is far smaller than you think.

DUH, it’s because he’s a liberal Democrat!!!!!!!

Didn’t Reagan sign an abortion law when he was governor of California?

If that was done originally with Roe instead of all or nothing, another 12 million or more people would be alive today.

Better to fight for the .0025% then 100% of it IMO.

If this was in him at all, and I tried very hard to give him the benefit of a doubt, I was thankful for one thing-that being who he is, he would never be able to restrain himself from letting it all out at least during he campaign for the general election. But he’s making it less painful for me by doing it now.

It might not be logically consistent from a sanctity of life standpoint. But allowing for exceptions makes it more likely to pass legislation.

Ah, those rascally presstitutes!

They push... Trump backs down... they push a little further, he backs down a bit more... then, having had a good outing today, they’ll quit.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Sorry! NO! Give ‘em an inch, and Katie bar the door.

Tomorrow, if not later today, expect something like: “Mr. Trump, do you really think America needs all those high capacity magazines and military style weapons?”

Life here will be interesting when THAT conversation happens.

And that conversation WILL happen. All those Kalifornia delegates are coming up...

Hide and watch.

Before it’s over, Trump will make Kasich look conservative.

I’m so disgusted with this campaign. Worried sick the Right is not putting the best possible candidate forward and we will get a clinton/Warren leftfest as a result

It's not even the general election yet. I was 100% positive Trump wouldn't slide to the left and align himself with Hillary until the general. I even underestimated Deceiving Donald.
Now I fear in the general election he will run to the LEFT of Hillary.

Wait till Hillary tears him up on the wall. He will abandon that quicker than you can say - WINNING. Here it comes.

I completely agree. He's campaigned as being "pro-life, with the exceptions."

The only new thing here is that he supports a change to the party platform.

There should be nothing at all interesting about this discussion. Any republican who would do something about this platform to stop abortion would be elected. After being pummeled much worse that trump ever thought of.

Any republican even remotely living up to this bs platform after election point him out

Abortion is legal. Even late term abortion. And after the baby parts sale expose in which in a free speech country the video maker is demonized

The republicans have done nothing to stop abortion but talk

Those who hope this trump statement will affect him can keep dreaming

>> Islam, second amendment and illegal immigration first.

Prediction: second amendment walk-back is next on Trump’s list.

When that happens, you can always reply with “Islam and illegal immigration first”. Right?

I agree with you. But this is the platform. This is where you put in the perfect scenario. I agree this would probably not be enacted, but if you feel all life is valued you have to have this as your basis. Implementing law is totally different.

If the right to life is denied, no other rights matter. Nor do walls, immigration policies, and taxes. Everything springs forth from the right to LIVE.
