'He Can Change': The New York Post Endorses Carol's Boyfriend (satire)
National Review ^ | April 15, 2016 | Charles C. W. Cooke

Carol's boyfriend is a mercurial figure -- a potentially nice guy, but unreliable, dangerous, and married to someone else. Exactly who he is can be hard to make out amid his capriciousness, his lying, and his occasional descents into violence...

But he can change. What else to expect from someone who reflects the baser passions? It'll be different when Carol fixes him. It'll be different when he leaves his wife. It'll be different when he kicks the habit. It'll be different when he gets back on his feet again. The therapy will change him. And Carol can learn to stop provoking him.

For those reasons, the New York Post today endorses Carol's boyfriend for another year of excitement and whimsy.

poorly written, isn’t it Cruz who’s reputed to have girlfriends? Perhaps the writer is just too cool for me.

Blow it up! Burn it down!

Sigh, you all sound like BLM protesters. Give it a rest already.

I find it hard to believe that there are as many people who are taken in by this snake oil salesman and his ridiculously ridiculous ridiculousness. He makes a great clown, and we’ll all get to bow to his best friends, the Clintoons, after she thrashes him in the general.

No, the Donald is not a solution to what ails us, rather, he is a big part of the problem.

Perfect! That’s exactly what most of his “endorsements” have said -”oh, but he can change.” This despite the fact that there is nothing in his 70 years that gives any evidence of such “change.”

I am a conservative and live my life by conservative principles. As a conservative, I believe only conservative principles has any chance of pulling us back from the brink. I thought, wrongly apparently, most FReepers believed the same. Sadly, it appears that most FReepers are far more interested in exacting their pound of flesh from the GOP (who I also despise). Here, now, where the rubber meets the road, when we can put up or shut up about whether we TRULY believe what we’ve said we believe, when we can stand with the courage of our convictions, many are choosing the shiny bauble who SAYS what we want to hear despite all evidence pointing to the contrary.

Let me try to put it another way. I’m sure you would concede that trump has been, just in the last decade, all over the map regarding the second amendment. I’d hope you would concede that that would cast serious doubt about the strength of the conviction therein (if it’s changed once for no apparent reason, why wouldn’t it change again...he can’t point to a reason for the change of heart...I’ve looked). So...what do you suppose is going to happen the next time there’s significant outcry from the public when another sandy hook happens (and sadly, it will)? He has no conservative principles to fall back on to stiffen his spine in the face of the outcry, because he doesn’t really believe it. He will bend and bow to the public pressure.

Truly, if elected, Donald trump will preside over the final chapter of a free America.

In truth, if Hillary or Bernie win, it WILL be very bad for America.

If either Trump or Cruz wins, it will be a better day for America.

Carol's boyfriend is a mercurial figure -- a potentially nice guy, but unreliable, dangerous, and married to someone else.

This year "Carol's boyfriend" is Cate Blanchett. Or actually it's Rooney Mara.

I have to wonder, though, if our English friend thinks he's discovered anything new.

Most elections involve hoping, expecting, wishing, dreaming that the candidates we vote for will turn out to be better than their records and behavior leads us to expect.

When was the last time you voted for a presidential candidate and assumed that everything you knew about your candidate indicated that your choice was truly destined to be a superior president?

So yeah, people try to convince themselves that Trump will turn out to be better than their record gives them grounds to believe, but that's true when it comes to Cruz or Kasich or Romney or McCain or Bush or Palin or Obama or Kerry or either Clinton.
