Uber will not challenge the city, but Lyft opposes the plan

It's about to get more expensive to drive an Uber or Lyft car in San Francisco.

Officials will require the 37,000 company drivers who work in the city seven or more days a year to obtain a business license, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The license will cost $91 a year. Drivers who earn $100,000 or less in gross receipts annually will be required to pay back fees for the license.

Then they should require panhandlers to do the same.

I wonder how much bribe money went to city and state officials on *this* one.

Enquiring minds want to know. Exactly when is the San Francisco city council going to implement a “Gerbil Tax.”

It’s the exceptions, not the rules, that attract the bribes.
How do you expect taxicab companies to continue paying for their licenses if Uber and Lyft get in free?

Retroactive taxation? Seems like they would have a legal case on that one.

So what happens to a UBER driver who picks up a rider in Marin county and drops the client off in San Francisco....

Or drives through SF and drops the client at the airport.....?

Inquiring minds seek to know....

San Francisco is becoming more Right Wing than any other city in it’s laws. Did the Democrats shift hard right? Or are they just closet fascists?

So 7 days = 7X24 hours = 168 + another 23.75 hours to make nearly 7 days= 191.75 hours.

So I guess to keep track of hours in SF with an annual 191.75 hours limit.

Why is it that liberals cannot tolerate a successful business operation without interfering with it? Can’t they just leave people alone?

The entire Uber business model is that they are independent contractors — not employees. If they are independent contractors they should have a business license like every other business. Why is this a problem?

How DARE anyone in the People's Republic of San Francisco want to be an independent Businessman. That is against the people!

It’s only a problem if cab drivers don’t need to get licenses

I don’t know what, if any, opinion Uber management has regarding state level Religious Freedom Restoration Acts but this event caused me to think: What is more important to these big companies that hate seeing Chrisitans being able to opt out of things they find immoral with no legal threat? The companies threaten to pull out of these states and move to socially liberal states. Liberal states and cities then push suffocating regulations or taxes on them. Do they care more about not being shaken down by the government or their pet social liberal causes?
