Four Reasons Republicans Should Rejoice at Cruz Beating Trump
PJ Media ^ | April 8, 2016 | T. Elliot Gaiser

When a political party picks one candidate over another, the party signals to the broader electorate what it represents. If the Republican Party nominates Ted Cruz instead of Donald Trump, it will represent one of the greatest practical and moral victories in the Republican Party’s noble history.

Cruz’s enormous victory in Wisconsin this week makes it more probable than not that Donald Trump falls short of the required 1,237 delegates – 50 percent plus one of the 2,472 total delegates to the convention – to cinch the nomination on the first ballot. Combined with savvy delegate recruitment and a mounting string of endorsements, Cruz is setting himself up as the most likely nominee in a contested convention.

While many Trump supporters might decry this outcome under the stated rules of the party as the “establishment” countermanding the voters, this broad theme oversimplifies. Both Trump and Cruz exist outside the “establishment." The more interesting question is what statement the GOP makes by picking the particular candidate Cruz over the particular candidate Trump.

If Cruz wrests the nomination from Trump with a renewed message of unity and opportunity, the party as a whole should rejoice and celebrate. Indeed, there are four reasons the party should be dancing inside at the prospect, because Cruz defeating Trump represents:

I was fooled into voting for McCain. I won’t be fooled again. How ‘bout you? Did you vote for McCain? If you did and you knew he was a fraud then why did you vote for him?

Do you always vote for the “r” no matter what? If you do, that makes you a fool. Seek help.

How long has it been since Cruz has used the words “Washington DC Cabal”?

I was fooled into voting for McCain.

I honestly thought everybody who voted for McCain knew what he was -- a backstabbing RINO. It never occurred to me that anybody could be "fooled" into voting for him.

Nonetheless, there were two good reasons to vote for McCain -- his VP pick...and his opponent.

How were you "fooled", for heaven's sake?

Yes, if Kasich does well, he helps ensure Trump hits 1237 by splitting the vote so Trump wins with a small plurality, as he has in almost all of his wins. Kasich is a moron who didn’t even know about rule 40 until a week ago.

Trump has added “establishment personnel” as well. You know why? Because people who have experience in politics, you can’t even figure out what the rules of the game are. Then there’s those Giuliani and Christie endorsements.

To proclaim Wisconsin as Cruzs bell weather is nuts. It is an outlier state and always has been

To speak of great moral victories this cycle is delusional at best.

Why are you and Bernie Sanders so scared of Goldman Sachs? Did they get put on the terrorist watch list recently?

Exactly Megan

Cruz only path to victory through a contested convention is to ally with the enemy

Which is fine to most Cruz Nutz

We’ll find out in a week or so when Cruz is knocked out and stays in just to stop Trump how many of his supporters here rode the Cruz pony just to stop Trump more than elect Cruz

I believe Trump is a plant by the Clintons to throw the election to Hillary. How would he be acting any different if he was? You hear barely a peep out of him criticizing the Clintons. He said one thing that hurt them weeks ago and quickly pulled back when he realized he went too far.

Has any Democrat trashed the Republican field as badly as Trump has to date?

Yes, I remember seeing a Cruz page that proclaimed how he was going to fight the establishment.

I never would have dreamed he would have joined in with them. At least I saw cracks in his armor before I voted in our caucus.

If Trump wins the 1237 and the GOP steals it for Cruz

That won't happen on two counts. First, if Trump wins a majority of delegates, he will be the nominee. The Party can't stop that. Secondly, if the Party were to steal it, they certainly wouldn't give it to Cruz. They hate him more than they hate Trump.

You really are outing yourself as a fake conservative if you don't understand the crony capitalism, that has been going on for a long time in this country, that the Globalists are using to plunder this country. SMH

Interesting how YOU are aligning yourself with a RINO.

I thought that was against the rules?
