Rush Limbaugh’s blessing of Trump is killing conservatism
Washington Post ^ | 3/28/2016 | Michael Gerson

Posted on 03/28/2016 10:24:42 PM PDT by GilGil

If Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee, one of the main reasons will be that many in the conservative movement found him acceptable. And one of the main reasons that many conservatives are finding Trump acceptable is that the most influential political talk radio host in history, Rush Limbaugh, has provided his blessing.

Not his endorsement. Limbaugh takes pains to preserve neutrality between Trump and Ted Cruz, whom he describes as the obvious choice “if conservatism is the dominating factor in how you vote.”

But Limbaugh has also consistently defended Trump as a legitimate choice for those whose dominating factor is the humiliation of “the establishment.”

Rush haven’t been neutral, he’s pro-Cruz.

If you don’t belittle Cruz or say something against him, you don’t like Trump. Rush has become a demon to Trumpomania. Trumpies would run over their grandmother if she voted for Cruz.

Someone tell me what Gerson has actually DONE for conservatism.

Besides scribble.

Oh, here, besides scribble, I found on the Washington ComPost web site more about the GENIUS Gerson:

...serves as senior adviser at One, a bipartisan organization dedicated to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable diseases. Until 2006, Gerson was a top aide to President George W. Bush as assistant to the president for policy and strategic planning....

So he PLANS and ADVISES, too.

Brilliant.

Drive-by set up to give Rush something to talk about himself. I have concluded Rush manufactures these drive-by stories. A comparison of Rush and Trump's private life shows Trump is more conservative. Rush secretly dining with Schumer and Graham back in 2011 getting talking points on amnesty exposes the depth of Rush's conservative values.

From the very few and short times I’ve listened to him in this last 6 months, I certainly haven’t seen him say much positive about Trump. There are times Trump would be his topic, but it was only used by him to tell everyone how brilliant he was at predicting something about the events surrounding him.

Rush is a multi-millionaire living in a Florida compound surrounded by everything he needs and has a jet to zoom off to wherever his fancy takes him - golfing, sports events, dinner, etc. It has been decades since he was anything connected to those of us out here in drive by land.

He can’t tell you the price of hamburger meat, bacon, eggs milk or most any staple whose prices we all struggle with. But ask him about some fancy cigar that costs $100 apiece and he can damned sure pipe up on that, you betcha.

For all his use to me, he might just as well talk about the NFL (his dream) and how that weirdly relates to current political events. That makes about as much sense as some of the stuff he’s talking about with Cruz and/or Trump - and Hillary, and Bernie. Frankly, he’s useless to me.

You pretty well described it. I listen to Rush 3 hours a day every day while on the ranch. Not much else to do when your counting cows and checking wells. While he’s never said who he prefers he has said there is one true conservative in the race and he’s said it several times. That would be Cruz.

Gerson does not seem to understand that first you have to win then you can preach conservatism

We've won plenty in the past 36 years! I've heard plenty conservative preaching too. But no action. Even Reagan didn't tear anything down. We are looking at the aftermath of a burn over of philosophical hypocrisy and infidelity.

But Trump will outbid the communist vote buyers with "Everybody Wins!"

I think there are spectrum “conservatives” and binary conservatives. I’ve often suspected that Rush is a spectrum conservative.

Dittos

Can’t stand to listen anymore to rush or Levin
Rush lost me big when he bought into that michelle Fields attempted set up of Trump’s campaign manager
I renewed my Carbonite subscription with no guilt

Savage is the only one who has supported Trump from day one and beyond that , wishing he would have run in 2012 .

If Trump wins he does not want to be left out of the limelight like Levin. Limbaugh understands the gravy train.

He understands reality - Cruz has been relegated to playing spoiler which means Trump is the only one actually concentrating on beating the Dems.

My “pet concerns” include, but are not limited to: securing the border; removing people who shouldn't be here; national security; promoting American culture & history; ending the war on Christianity; securing fair trade; strengthening the economy; limiting the size size, scope and power of government.

What are yours?

It’s worse: Gerson’s brand of “conservatism” is hardly American nationalism. Save the country.

“Rush has not been favorable to Trump “AT ALL”.”

In the very beginning Rush was all Trump. For the “neutral during the primaries” Rush, I was quite surprised at how enthusiastic Rush was about Trump. Then.... I don’t know who, got to Rush, but he did a complete 180. He became the anti-Trump. I’d be real interested in what caused his 180.

“Rush Limbaugh’s blessing of Trump is killing conservatism”

What is “killing conservatism” is people that RUN AS CONSERVATIVES and then seem to FORGET EVERYTHING once taking office.

All Republicans had to do was govern as they ran and Trump would have been LAUGHED OUT of the race last summer.

But the Big Money simply WILL NOT PERMIT THAT.
