National Review ^ | March 18, 2016 | John Fund

Posted on 03/20/2016 6:56:30 PM PDT by EveningStar

Donald Trump and his backers want to redefine mathematics, and have the GOP nomination handed to him with a plurality of delegates, rather than a majority, being sufficient...

The Republican party has held 39 national conventions since its first in 1856. At each and every one, a majority of delegates was needed for someone to get the nomination...

It looks to me like Trump is well on his way to getting the necessary 1237 delegates and I'm not at all thrilled with it. :(

Isn’t Trump the nasty yellow fellow with a stupid combover and tiny hands?

“The GOP changed the rules when Romney came up short in 2012. Sorry, John. Doesn’t matter anyway, Trump will get 1237.”

No they didn’t. Romney had a huge majority. They changed the rules so that Paul couldn’t even be nominated. But if he’d been nominated, he would have lost to Romney.

Well, I’m going to bed, but don’t bet too much SJ, Trump is on track to make 1237.

“If a runner gets 3/4 around the track does he get the trophy...”

In this politically correct world, he’d get a trophy. Ironically, Trump supporters vote for him because he’s not politically correct, but those same supporters now are arguing that it wouldn’t be politically correct for him to be denied the nomination even if he doesn’t get 50% of the delegates.

With Rubio out and even without Kasich suspending his campaign, Trump is not getting 1237. Why do you think his surrogates have started pushing for a rule change at the convention?

Romney did not come up short. He had over 1400 of the 2200 delegates.

"LOL" I'll take that a a "nasty" little bit of nervous laughter in response to my accurate analysis of your slightly vulgar blast at author J.F.

Just what is it that you "think" I'll be able to figure out for myself? Were you referring to my tagline, perhaps?

Just same old bully tactic, if I don’t get my way I’ll cause you most harm. Same crap we heard from the RonPaul idiots.

Betcha his bluff is called.

If abortion laws can change and gay marriage can change, then I imagine laws that change for convention every four years can change, as well.

Why do these idiots think we can’t read?

If he wins them in the Primaries, that’ll be great. If not then STFU.

No, just not interested in trading jabs with you this evening.

If you don’t like what I’ve said, that’s okay.

I don’t expect everyone to agree with me.

Hmmm, I’m thinking about that one... “:^)

The electoral college in most states is WTA, should that also be abandoned?

Or should we do like he dems and offer up an exorbitant number of super delegates in order to allow for a majority at the convention in the case where multiple candidates leave a plurality?

Doing away with WTA would almost guarantee open / contested conventions every cycle. Is that really preferable? Months of debates and voting only to allow the benevolent party leaders to decide in the end?

Give high school diplomas to kids that haven’t quite mad the grade because we can’t hurt their self esteem. Trump can’t loose what he doesn’t have and if he doesn’t have the delegates he is not the winner. Process has to be followed

Getting a majority of the votes of the delegates to win the nomination has only been the rule in the Republican Party since they nominated Fremont in 1856. Getting the most votes has never been the rule. I hope in vain that some low information people may pick up a book on American History and actually read it, and hopefully understand it. I hope also that the book’s reading level is above “Rush Revere”.
