What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

I’ve noticed all great purist conservative talk from every politician for 20 years. And then they get in there and rule like dems.

Well I don’t give a cap anymore about their supposed conservative ideals . That dog don’t hunt. At least not for me. They don’t stand true to it. They never do.

I’ll give trump a try. He was the only one who had the balls to say the unsayable. At least he has that. And that is a lot. Huevos. Gravitas. Call it what you will.

The calculating pols knew this, so Trump was on the politicians/ hit list as a sucker who/d write a check, no questions asked.....political extortion at its finest.

Maybe, but then Trump turns around and accuses Cruz of being beholden to doners.

Can't have it both ways.

Conservatism is out trumpistism is in here.
And I think libs have taken over as well. They admire deal making and pragmatism and will trash one for being a Conservative purist.

Nothing has happened to this site. The smart people aren’t sitting back asking to lose this time.

Cruz is a loser and he cannot, and will not, win a general election.

We have the Kenyan because both political parties are criminal organizations and like yourself, don’t give a crap about our Constitution or the Rule-of-Law.

I supported Sen.Cruz until he started these attacks on
his opponents then saying Trumps rhetoric was the cause
of the protestors anger etc.

We know, that Trump will cut deals with our liberal opposites
but we also know that they will think they have won until
they realize the butthurt they are experiencing when they
see that they didn’t get the best of the bargain.

I voted for Cruz before he started acting up or out
otherwise I would have voted Trump like I will in the
general election.

Heaven forbid anyone should disagree with you, or refuse to follow that magical skittles-defecating unicorn known as “true conservatism.”

“What has happened to Free Republic?”

Free Republic has ALWAYS HATED THE GOPe. Trump will finally CRUSH THEM. Therefore we haven’t changed, so nothing happened.

By the way, who do you work for?

katwoman5779 does have a point there, Trump has never held a political office. He says he will get rid of illegals but what is his political backing to prove this? What has he ever voted on in the past as a politician that will prove he will do anything he says he will do?

At least with Cruz we have some track record.

You toss around labels. Conservative, populist, liberal. Those are great for when you have a free country in which to choose labels. When you realize we are being run by an oligarchy that does not have the People’s best interests at heart, you learn that we don’t have the liberty to care as much about who is labeled what. First let’s get our country back belonging to us, the people.

A wall is not going to be built. Until CONGRESS is changed, nothing will change. Donald Trump is not going to change Congress, he will make deals. And Congress is not building a wall.

Congress already voted for the wall. I think Trump will build it. BUT I think Trump will work with McConnell and Ryan to give us a legalization amnesty, and maybe later a citizenship amnesty.

One more thing, probably most important....

This election is not really R vs. D, or conservative vs. liberal.

It’s outsider, or anti-establishment vs. Corrupt Washington. With a Bush working for him, and his Goldman Sachs connections, and now Lindsey Graham raising money for him, it’s questionable how much of an outsider he really is. Obviously the establishment prefers Cruz, which makes him less desirable to the fed-up masses.

Trump is the best person to blow up Washington corruption. I think he’d have a great time doing it, to boot. I can see him giving weekly reports, informing all of the citizens of what he’s found and what he’s doing about it. It’s going to be exciting.

I honestly wish Cruz would hang it up and let Mr. Trump continue to get the delegates he needs, unfettered.

If Cruz can’t seal the deal in the primary he won’t do it the general. Cruz is totally noncompetitive in swing states. Sorry.
