Trump Vows to 'Rip Up' All Trade Agreements
The Hill ^ | 03/03/16 06:43 PM EST | Vicki Needham

Republican front-runner Donald Trump on Thursday said he would rip up all existing free trade agreements if he wins the White House.

Trump argued that he would greatly improve U.S. relationships with nations such as Mexico and China while lowering trade deficits.

"I’m going to rip up those trade deals and we’re going to make really good ones,” he said during a campaign stop in Portland, Maine.

He lashed out at 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney for saying that a Trump presidency would ruin free trade for the United States.

“Ruin free trade?” Trump said. "If I’m losing $505 billion with China, if I’m losing $58 billion a year with Mexico, in terms of deficit, why do I want that kind of trade for anyway," Trump said.

"Ruin it? Who needs that kind of trade, seriously who needs that kind of trade,” Trump said.

Earlier in the day, Romney called Trump a fraud and ripped him for his lack of policy proposals.

The trade deficit with China last year soared to $365.7 billion, well below Trump's $505 billion, and was $58.3 billion with Mexico, according to Commerce Department figures.

“We will actually have better relationships with Mexico and better relationships with China, they’ll respect us,” Trump said.

“They don’t respect us now. They think we’re the dumbest people on earth led by the world’s dumbest people," he said.

Well this will raise a brouhaha, but maybe even those who are groaning “what about the Constitution” might find out that the Constitution might have precious little to do with what’s actually in force now.

This is one of the main reasons the GOPe, as well as so-called Conservative talk radio (Levin, Beck, Limbaugh)are so opposed to Trump ...they want open-borders and corrupt trade deals ...

Good we are still using a Cold War “Managed Trade” theory. We need to evolve our thinking in DC away from that theory finally.

And how is that going to greatly improve relations with Mexico and China?

So ripping up existing trade agreements with China and Mexico is going to magically improve relationships with China and Mexico? Is the President even allowed to just rip up trade agreements? Are we talking common sense and reality here or are we just spewing whatever crap will whip the crowd into a frenzy?

I’m all for the sentiment, he just won’t have the authority to do so as President. But I hope he can get Congress to take action.

Look at all the money that Romney paid the political class only to throw the election to the Democrats. When they beg you for money, say no. We are being sold out so they can convert all the illegal immigrants into citizens.

Did he say “ALL “ trade agreements? Often the press loves to put words in his mouth. I bet he named trade deficits with China, Mexico and Japan. Though I suspect he would ultimately review trade relationships in general.

More Bush destruction of the country. NAFTA was the baby of HW who started negotiations for it in 1990. He ran out of time to fast track it before his term ran out and then the Slickster ran with it, proving yet again that it really is just one big Uniparty.

I’ll take “just spewing whatever crap will whip the crowd into a frenzy”. It’s what The Donald does so well.

Those deals were never supposed to be bad for us. We just never enforced them when the other countries cheated. Enforce the damn law. Just like with the border.

Yeah, it only takes a minimal amount of common sense to see this.
