OREGON STANDOFF: Four surrender peacefully, Wave of arrests, County officials obfuscation

It was rough going when the time came for David Fry to leave the improvised position known as "Camp Finicum" in the parking lot of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge yesterday. He was concerned about going to prison, losing his freedom, he was suicidal.

Before him, three others had walked out and surrendered to the FBI in the presence of Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore and Rev. Franklin Graham. (Jeff Banta, Sean Anderson, Sandy Anderson)

But for David Fry, who has been trashed in the media for his drug issues with law enforcement in the past and his crazy internet posts, it was no surprise that he was in difficulty.

Many would want to discredit the cause that David was at the refuge for (freedom for the Hammonds, freedom for farmers and ranchers to use the land) because of his 'issues' but my read of history reminds me of the crazy people around leaders who are honored by our society.

Bayard Rustin, a Communist who was arrested for cruising a men's room and was gay was accepted by Dr. Martin Luther King as a helper.

I pray for peace and serenity in David's life, sanity and sobriety. God Bless David Fry, I wish him the best.

William Fry, his father, texted "OregonLive": "We are all relieved our prayers were answered". Indeed they were.

Meanwhile, a wave of arrests away from the refuge related to the occupation that began January 2nd.

There were nine new indictments in the last 24 hours or so with seven arrests and two more planned. This is on top of the 16 already arrested in the 'occupation'.

Among those arrested, Blaine Cooper, who had left the refuge in a hurry when others were arrested and LaVoy Finicum killed on January 26th.

The names of the last two are not revealed because they haven't been arrested yet.

There's a lot of fear in the wake of these arrests and questions about 'who's next'.

I checked the FBI news release link. Nothing new yet on arrests.

Harney County officials issued a carefully worded statement late yesterday acknowledging land use issues in the county and calling for legal means to be used in the case of the Hammond's. Sheriff Dave Ward urged people in the country to talk with each other directly about issues.

In an interview with Oregon Public Broadcasting, Harney County Judge Stephen Grasty does want to give 'the Bundy's' any credit for what's being talked about in the county now and any policy changes in the future. "I think their strategy was completely wrong" Grasty says.

But frankly, the truth is that if Ammon Bundy and his small band had not shown up at the wildlife refuge right or wrong, renamed it the Harney County Resource Center, made improvements to the roads there, fixed some other things up and begun a program of education in the county and beyond, yesterday's statement would never have been made and changes hinted at by Harney County officials.

What the future holds, we do not know...but actions ultimately speak louder than words.

One sword hanging over Harney County are plans to create a 'national monument' in the county that would put 400 ranchers out of business. A lame duck President Obama could make a decision in the last 11 months of his presidency on that matter.

people for what end? It is defined in the words published by our founders to be Tyranny. They responded by published that arms in the hands of the people would prevent unjust laws from being pressed. There are two ways to disarm a people—teach them to ignore-or neglect the Constitution—and Principles upon which the political house was built—or to disarm them by force of law. T’anks—The more I learn the more determined I am to be
numbered among those who oppose Tyranny. The enemy thought they could snuff out a brushfire by the MURDER of Robert Lavoy Finicum— and the Terrorism—and imprisonment of so many others. In me they sparked a coal seam fire. Lincoln said Americans must live through all time a nation of Freemen or die by suicide. When the “progressives”seized control of our Government—and schools they thought they had found a motherload and would enrich themselves forever.
I never learned in school “Resistance to Tyranny is obedience to God.” Hey I do not recall ever hearing of Joseph Story— or of Montesquieu, or Locke our teachers were ashamed to teach Ben Franklin’s speech June 28 1787.
I never heard of James Madison “On Property” until 2015.
I did hear the brief Network news version of the “Standoff “ between the Bundy family and the Government— but NOT the facts essential to that event. Much like the media coverage of what took place in Eastern Oregon.
I can never replace -nor would I want to —the Bundy Family—Nor Lavoy Finicum- Nor the Hammonds— Nor any other who were called to go to Oregon.But the brushfire the enemy thought they could snuff out—has become a coal seam fire in me. And I will NEVER surrender of my own free will.
