Cruz to GOP: It’s either me or Trump
Hot Air ^ | 2/10/2016 | ED MORRISSEY

Premature or prophetic? While analysts tried to figure out who had a "ticket" coming out of New Hampshire, Ted Cruz told Salem's Mike Gallagher that only two tickets exist -- at least in first class. With a win in Iowa and a surprising third-place finish last night, Cruz warned the Republican Party that he's the only one in the field who can dethrone Trump:

"South Carolina historically has played a critical role picking presidents. And I think Iowa and New Hampshire perform an incredibly important function in narrowing the field and in many ways this field is becoming a two-person race between me and Donald Trump," the Texas senator said on the Mike Gallagher Show Wednesday. "What Iowa and New Hampshire demonstrate is that the only person in this field who can beat Donald Trump is me. The other candidates are not able to beat Donald Trump."

Trump fans are members of the cult of personality.. Their faith in him is blind, and without bounds. They love his brand of Christianity, and laugh at Cruz’s faith. Because Cruz follows the messiah ... and Donald, because he is without sin, has no need of a messiah’s forgiveness. Why support a follower of Christ, when you could instead follow a messiah?

Scurrilous guttersnipe? Nah. I’m just sick of Trump worship. Highlighting Trumpbots’ undying worship is my way of drawing attention to how ludicrous it is.

You know, some guy play the crowd. He seems to thrive of them and loves to connect. For his billions, he’s one of the most down to earth people.

You can’t have to know him to see it. The Clintons were fakes. You could see it a mile off. This guy is real.

As a public servant, Newt proposed and implemented the contract with America.

Newt is a patriot and he has done a lot for our country. Nothing you say will change that. Have you ever really listened to him? Newt has one of the most brilliant minds in modern politics. Newt was Time Magazines Person of the Year 1995

LEADERS MAKE THINGS POSSIBLE. EXCEPTIONAL LEADERS make them inevitable. Newt Gingrich belongs in the category of the exceptional. All year--ruthlessly, brilliantly, obnoxiously--he worked at hammering together inevitabilities: a balanced federal budget, for one. Not so long ago, the idea of a balanced budget was a marginal, we'll-get-to-it-someday priority. Other urgent work needed doing: the Clintons' health-care program, for example, which would have installed elaborate new bureaucratic machinery. Today, because of Newt Gingrich, the question is not whether a balanced-budget plan will come to pass but when…

Hailed as Time's "Man of the Year" in 1995 and touted by some historians as this century's most influential Speaker, U. S. Representative Newt Gingrich (born 1943) held on to his Speaker's post by a narrow margin of only three votes in 1997. "For better or worse, he has changed the language and substance of American politics perhaps like no other politician in recent history," said Time magazine's editor James Gaines. The man who felled the former Speaker of the House Jim Wright on ethics violations was himself charged and fined for his own violation of House ethics in 1996. His "Contract with America" fell short of its promises and his conservative stance has taken on a liberal hue. The Speaker now faces his greatest challenge from within his own party. The question many are asking is whether he can survive his current tenure as Speaker of the House.

Nah... I would say that most of Trump supporters are tired of politics as usual and of the liberal media performing their tricks.

I don’t support Trump but am sure glad that he is destroying the GOP elite and their so called selection for president. If you don’t see that the establishment is/was/and is trying to control the election then you are lost anyway.

The Trump/Bernie thing is slowly beginning to dawn on the media and even on the populace and they are still in a trance. Way too many of us are really tired of the same old thing - corruption in politics, and are trying to change things.

Doubtful that it will work but at least this time enough voters are willing to try.. That is a good thing!

If not this time, maybe next..

I don’t worship anyone except Christ.....
....and neither you nor anyone else knows the depth of my relationship with Him.

Your words are scurrilous, insulting, lacking of dignity and blasphemous

When you can’t cogently explain the merits of your own chosen candidate.....IF you have one

You simply resort to a continuing attack on Trump and those who support him

Cruz did not nor does he care about the supremes making perversion the law...

You need to get back on your meds. Cruz has done more to actually defend the Constitution than anyone in the race. And what does Cruz calling McConnell a liar have to do with Supreme Court cases?? You are all over the map here, making absolutely no sense. Either you have been playing a drinking game, taking a drink every time Trump uses the word terrific... no, you'd be dead of alcohol poisoning by now if you did that... or you are suffering from a form of dementia that seems to be common in Trump supporters.

Talking and supporting is what a politician does. It has nothing to do with what the Supreme Court does. Wistful thinking does not make laws or uphold them in courts.

Talking a good game is a political endeavor only...and most running for office are very good at it!

God told Ted Cruz to run for president. How are you going to argue against that.

God didn’t tell Donald Trump to run for president, who does Trump he think he is? ;-)

But Cruz has actually argued in front of the Supreme Court, defending religious liberty, 2nd Amendment rights, defending states against UN encroachment into our legal system, and WON. He has done a lot more than just talk.

Yep, well he got screwed by the drunk irishman on more occasions. One is immigration, he gave in on amnesty and they never secured the border.

We don’t need any more deals. Ryan just screwed us royally on the spending bill. Boehner got screwed on every bill Obama wanted. Harry got everything he ever wanted.

No more DEALS, we are better off with no deals than those deals.

No, Carson’s campaign was floundering and he decided to pack up and go home on the eve of voters going to the polls and never bothered to return. No voters in Iowa, not a single one, have ever claimed they would have really voted for Carson. Its Carson trying to blame Cruz for his failure in Iowa and Trump using or to explain his own flop despite leading in the polls. Now we’re passed open primaries in a blue state.

Cruz called McConnel a liar as a publicity stunt. Free media! Cruz could have if he is what he claims, a Christian, follows the original intent of the Constitution, appealed that gay Texas case...

I am sorry you are having a hard time keeping up. But how easy you go liberal suggesting I am drunk.

Why is it there is no end of the blame game of all those mean people that just will not let Teddy save US..

I have not even begun to list all the pits Cruz has dug for himself and cannot ever take personal responsibility for anything.

What exactly is the big deal about arguing before the supremes? Mind boggling that this somehow gives anybody gravitas to hold the office of president.

Right, I agree that he has performed well but you need to forget that and understand that he is now a politician. He manages what he says and does to get elected. If he stated his beliefs consistently, he would be unusual as a politician.

Can you say that for his campaign statements or has he modified them for political reasons?

Among those running, I support Cruz but like most politicians, he continually modifies his beliefs to fit the situation and that is a problem. Of course, it could be that the media is distorting him but he has to correct them if that happens - right?

Cruz called McConnell a liar because McConnell lied to him - nothing more complicated than that.

Cruz could have if he is what he claims, a Christian, follows the original intent of the Constitution, appealed that gay Texas case...

By the time Cruz was even appointed Solicitor General, the case was already in front of the Supreme Court. Once they made their decision, there was no other court to appeal to. You have a very poor understanding of the judicial system.

WKA says Cruz is in the "naturalized" bucket, your cherry-picking of a phrase out of context is misleading.

In the Ark decision, the argument was made that there was a third type of citizenship aka “Natural Born Citizen” (you can read the dissenting opinions to see the argument). The majority of the Supreme Court rejected that argument and that is why they specified that the Constitution only recognizes two forms of citizenship.

Don’t like it? Take it to the Supreme Court and argue it again.
