Right, I agree that he has performed well but you need to forget that and understand that he is now a politician. He manages what he says and does to get elected. If he stated his beliefs consistently, he would be unusual as a politician.

Can you say that for his campaign statements or has he modified them for political reasons?

Among those running, I support Cruz but like most politicians, he continually modifies his beliefs to fit the situation and that is a problem. Of course, it could be that the media is distorting him but he has to correct them if that happens - right?

Modifies his beliefs, or focuses on the issues most important to the people he is speaking to?? For example, in Iowa he focused on social conservative issues because the key constituency was evangelicals. We know from Ted's personal history that he believes what he said, he lives those values in his own life. Then in NH, he focused on liberty issues - eminent domain, NSA spying, etc., because of the large libertarian voting block. He did not stress the social issues as much because those were not the issue important to the voters in NH, but he never walked away from them either.

A part of being a politician is being able to address the issues that the voters care about, not just the issues you care about. As long as the candidate is not changing his position on the issues, the fact that he focuses more on some issues than on others with different groups is just part of the process.
