Carrier moving operations to Mexico

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis manufacturing facility is moving operations to Mexico, impacting 1,400 jobs.

Carrier, currently located on West Morris Street, will be moving operations to Monterrey, Mexico beginning in 2017. The move is expected to be complete in 2019.

A release by the company said there would be no immediate impact on jobs.

The company says the proposal to move is subject to "discussions with local union representatives."

"This decision is difficult and we recognize the impact on employees, their families and the community. We are committed to ensuring that our employees are treated respectfully and to working closely with their representatives throughout this transition," said Chris Nelson, President of HVAC Systems and Services North America.

Sooner or later the geniuses will figure out that all of these factories are leaving the U.S. to avoid Obamacare and all of its ubiquitous costs and administrative headaches.

Yet the Republicans keep right on funding that monster....

The house I bought in 2008 had a Goodman (mfg in Houston TX) furnace and AC installed the year before. Lots of problems with both heat and AC, low quality.

They were purchased by the Japanese in 2012 (Daikin Group) perhaps they have shaped them up?

So you wont’ buy from Carrier. Who will you buy from? And how do you know it manufactures your unit in the United States?

So little manufacturing is done here anymore, I don’t know that saying “I won’t buy from Carrier” makes a difference.

I would be willing to WAGER that in NAFTA and all these other sell out trade deals there are MANY PROVISIONS the Administration can UTILIZE to Impose Higher Costs, Extremely Higher Costs, CONGRESS already gave the store away and with it their power to regulate.

HVAC guy did say had quality issues in the past but lately they’ve upped their quality...but now, with your information, anecdotal as it is, I’ll have to look into it further.

Actually, I would be willing to bet that those agreements make it MORE difficult to impose tariffs and other such punitive actions.

UT really doesn’t like obnoxious unions. I knew people that worked at Stromberg-Carlson, and they enjoyed moving from upstate NY, to FL. Then they declined to move to TX.

There seems to be disturbing trend of people wanting Trump to just act unilaterally. We already have that, so substituting one emperor for another, isn't very appealing.

When I was a young man, they built big buildings, filled them with machines, manufactured things to sell to the world, and called them factories.

When I was middle age, they built big buildings, filled them with things manufactured around the world, sold them to Americans, and called them warehouses.

Now they don’t even build big buildings anymore.

Now they call them data centers.

In my research, I’ve seen that there are still a couple of brands, and yes, they probably use overseas sourced components.

However, it’s like New Balance sneakers, they’re doing what they can.

Carrier could choose to do the same.

You’re free to buy as you choose.

I’m sure there are many other brands that have reasons to avoid, gay partner benefits, donated to Democrats, employ illegals, etc.

It’s pretty difficult to be “pure” these days when transacting commerce.
