Cam Newtonâs dream season ended with a nightmare performance.
Fresh off being named the leagueâs MVP, the Panthers fifth-year quarterback was stymied by an aggressive Denver Broncos defense in his first Super Bowl appearance on Sunday.
It didnât get any better off the field, as Newton also walked out during his postgame interview.
âI donât know what you want me to say, Iâm sorry,â a very dejected Newton said, prior to walking off. CBS Sports Radioâs Jim Rome took a shot at Newton following his postgame press conference.
âCamâs presser was weak. If youâre going to celebrate when you win, youâve got to face the music when you lose,â Rome tweeted.

Good one. LOL
I believe that was his response to the missed field goal that bounced off the upright.
Newton did seem to be favoring his left shoulder. But if there was a problem I’m sure we would’ve heard about it by now.
Ahhh, the “Old 0bama kiss of death” routine...
From my point of view, I see QBs do that sort of thing all the time. They don’t want to take the hit. You never know when one injury might be a career-ending one. It does help me respect other players who are sacrificing their bodies to make the big play.
I thought Cam did the Best Chuck Long as a Detroit Lion impression I have every seen.
It’s not just the big race chip he carries on his shoulder that’s the problem. It’s his character.
He’s been allowed to break the law and act like a jerk his entire life. When he was in college he stole a computer from one of his own teammates. When the police came he threw the computer out the window.
The college should have thrown him out. They didn’t. The Panthers should have got rid of him as soon as he began to act like an animal. They haven’t.
Why anybody supports the money grubbing NFL is a mystery to me.
You are obligated to ping myself and dfwgator with post regarding Lions and their QBs.
We both have it “in” for Maggie Ford.
But the ball did get away and the slow motion makes the time lapse seem longer.
This is one of those plays that will get replayed all day, Cam left the interview shortly after a question about this play I do believe.
It's gotta be hard, after losing the game of a lifetime, emotions running so high, to calmly sit down and take questions you still haven't figured out yourself yet.
He'll be back, I'm almost certain.
We were sitting around the other day when the topic of a local football player and a run in with the law came up. One of the people said, “Well, he’s only 23.” My buddy chimes in,”When I was 23 I was an A-Team commander in Vietnam!”
Haven’t watched football in years, but this sounds pretty mature:
“They just played better than us. I don’t know what you want me to say. They made more plays than us, and that’s what it comes down to. We had our opportunities. It wasn’t nothing special that they did. We dropped balls, we turned the ball over, gave up sacks, threw errant passes. That’s it. They scored more points than us.”
Not much to add to that!
Yes, there were several large black men on the Broncos D (Von Miller and Demarcus Ware come to mind) that had no fear of Cam and hammered him all night.
I don’t care who the QB is; keep pounding them (to coin a phrase), make them uncomfortable in the pocket and they’re going to make mistakes. The same Broncos defense sent Brady and the Patriots packing using the same tactics. And the Giants won two Super Bowls against the Pats doing the same thing—games where New England was clearly the better team.
Don’t know if Cam Newton has ever seen the kind of pressure he faced last night. John Elway deserves a lot of credit for getting the defensive talent his team needed after the beat-down they took from Seattle two years ago. And kudos to Wade Phillips for putting together a simple but dominant defensive scheme. His LBs and defensive backs were like glue on Carolina’s receivers and DL not only made Cam miserable, they dominated the line of scrimmage.
Von Miller is going to be a very rich man in free agency.
'Cause football is fun, and us old guys who used to play for love of the game regardless of talent level can live vicariously through it?
I’ve seen plenty of spoiled brats in the military, including some with major commands.
Can did fine, and controlled his responses pretty well for a young kid. He’ll be back, and he will get a ring someday... but not getting one after having the 3rd best season in history is tough to swallow.
Maybe he should watch how Jordon Speith handles the media.
Weird how his brother seemed to be disappointed when it became clear he was going to win the SB.
really?
i didn’t watch it. Refuse to watch another one until the Jets are in it.
(that should be the opening for at least 40 or 50 jokes)
Crazy family dynamic, right? i wonder how they all get along.
though inconsistent, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Eli get another. When he’s hot, he’s sick hot.
I hope the Jets get Kaepernick, or however you spell it lol
