He got laid out very early on and that’s when I first noticed his left shoulder. I think it was injured, but he had to play through it anyway.

I would much rather be a poor winner than a good loser.

I still can’t figure that one out. Not that it would have made any difference but, why not dive on it and try to recover your own fumble? Newton exposed himself as a pu ...um, er...a wussie.

“From my point of view, I see QBs do that sort of thing all the time. They don’t want to take the hit.”

Yeah, I guess that’s my point.

“You never know when one injury might be a career-ending one.”

That’s true for (almost) everyone who suits up in sports. Many years ago, in a pre-season exhibition game, Sonny Jurgensen threw an interception and injured his shoulder trying to tackle the Dolphins’ Dick Anderson. Asked why he risked injury to make the tackle, Jurgensen replied, “I can’t ever recall trying to get out of anybody’s way in football. You’re supposed to tackle them, aren’t you?”

All this came after Newton's mother, Jackie, sent her son a heartfelt text message, which the Pro Bowl quarterback posted on Instagram prior to the game. In the message, Jackie wrote: "I understand that hot and cold water comes out of different fountains. You are neither hot or cold. You have a big platform. Which fountain are you? Don't let the devil win over your words or speech that represents the dark world. But represent the awesome God you serve through your words. ... You win with your character and powerful words you speak.''

Well, his mom tried.

I NEVER thought manning would win another

Neither did I. I wonder how much Goodell and the NFL had to do with that. Manning seems to be their "boy".

I didn’t see the video but it does look like he said he was sorry for losing the game. I never heard anyone ever do that before. Typically they blame someone else or something.

i wouldn’t put anything past anybody anymore, but how could they rig such a thing to happen?

payoffs to some to throw a game? just when i think that can’t happen anymore, i read about it somewhere in some sport.

couldn’t be brady though, he’s rather die than throw a game.

ah, he’s not that young, but in today’s world he is.

i’m not ready to label him yet.

but next time, he has to finish the conference after the game, even if he loses.

i didn’t see carolina coming this far at all!!

caught me off guard.

i thought several years ago they were saying he couldn’t cut it.

Contrast Russell Wilson (black man) and his response to losing the Super Bowl with Cam Newton's petulance.

Wilson: "I take full responsibility for the loss."

Newton: "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa."

Russell Wilson is a fantastic role model, and a brother in Christ. He is far more mature and respectible than Cam, IMHO (his stats are far superior to Cam's as well). For a while I wanted the Panthers to have the perfect season that they had earned, but after seeing their petulant attitude, I no longer respected them as a team.

I’m not a Manning or Denver fan (Seattle guy). But Manning is beyond washed up and shouldn’t have played the season, let alone the game. Him movement in the pocket reminds me of a 90 year-old trying to navigate in an elevator, and he barely contributed in this game. I take that back—he did contribute two turnovers that were just about the only good things that happened for Carolina all day. That said, I said before the game I was rooting for Denver’s defense. I can’t stand the Cam Newton bullshit and can’t think of anyone who deserves a bitch-slap more than him.

I saw them showing the Mannings in the skybox. I thought Eli maybe was sulking myself.

The Denver defense didn't look like they were afraid of him.

Completely agree. The Broncos D was on fire! They did to Carolina what the Panthers did to my belove Seahawks. Karma, poetic justice, proxy payback...

’ Cam is a poor winner and a worse loser’-best description of this super narcissist ever. He suffered a major narcissistic injury when the Denver defense failed to recognize his superiority and specialness. The lying king is an exact clone-plus they both inject race into everything. Congrats to both defenses-congrats to Manning-he didn’t panic and lose to the Carolina defense. Awesome SB win for Denver-most enjoyable SB in a long time IMO.

Yes, right after it was clear Denver was going to win, the camera when to the family box. They were all beginning to stand up and cheer. Eli was in the back and really looked like he was disgusted, almost angry.

I know Eli has 2 rings, I guess he just didn't want to share in the fame.

When your team makes it to the Super Bowl, hey, that is a huge honor. Only one team can actually win the game. Surely he has lost games before...

I have always said one of the toughest jobs in broadcasting is to interview an athlete after losing the biggest game of his/her life. Not as tough as answering the questions, though. A few years back Kurt Busch just about tore off Dr. Jerry Punch’s head when Doc asked him a question about getting knocked out of a race. I felt really bad for Doc, and there was no excuse for what Busch did, but I also realized how frustrated Busch must have been.

Those were the good old days. Nobody worried about concussions back then. Of course, players weren’t these super human beefy muscle men back then either.
