Cam Newton now must face a sickening reality
NY Post ^ | February 7, 2016 | Mark Cannizzaro

The dab is dead until further notice.

There would be no dabbing on this night for Cam Newton -- the biggest night of his NFL career, a night when the Panthers superstar was attempting to complete one of the greatest seasons a quarterback has ever delivered.

As it does for every team that loses the Super Bowl, the end came in an almost violent abruptness.

Broncos 24, Panthers 10 in Super Bowl 50 Sunday night at Levi's Stadium sucked the life from every one of the Carolina players, but none more than Newton, who'd been so brilliant all season.

Newton, who threw 35 touchdown passes and rushed for 10 more in the regular season, finished the game 16-of-38 for 245 yards, an interception and two lost fumbles that led to 15 Denver points.

When it ends for the Super Bowl loser, the finality of it all is something that players who've experienced it have a difficult time describing. Some even contend they'd rather not have gotten to the game at all if they were not going to win it.

So just like that Sunday night, blue and orange confetti rained down on the field and Newton and the Panthers, who entered the game with a remarkable 18-1 record, were quickly ushered off the field to make way for the winners' celebration ceremony.

The only real issue with Cam was NOT DIVING ON A LOOSE BALL.

He's has more real issues than that, both on and off the field. When he receives even a little pressure, his passes are unusually errant. Way below average for QBs. All year he's had all the time in the world to sit back in the pocket and survey the field. It won't always be that way.

Also his attitude. Did you see his postgame interview? Sulking and standoff-ish. Like a child. Then he bolted in the middle of it. And he's not rookie anymore, so that's no excuse anymore. 5 years in the league now.

I’ve watched every single NFL game Dan Marino played in and he never once did what Cam did.

Hate to ask this, Rome, but as one FReeper to another...

Just *how* much have you had to drink tonight?

Super Bowl 50 was the Broncos vs. the Panthers.

Not a sea animal in sight....

That play will now define him.

Like Donovan McNabb puking in 2004.

I guess the Denver defense didn’t get the memo that they were supposed to be askeered of a black quarterback.

Not a drop, I know the fish weren’t in this one, just not used to seeing a team in the SB play like them:)

Sorry, Superman, Vonn Miller and DeMarcus Ware must have been wearing uniforms made of kryptonite.

Actually, I'd call it a Slick Willie weaslin' rationalization worthy of a Clinton campaign.

Agreed
Plus his position requires winning the mental game. He’s a loser in that respect

Very rational points, but instinct and desire make a great football player.
I believe even the aged Manning would have gone for that ball in that situation.

I didn’t see what Cam did, but I saw Marino stand over a ball he’d just fumbled. He stood there and waited for someone else to cover it.

I also remember Marino trying to join some concussion lawsuit a couple of years ago, and I considered that ridiculous because he took so few hits. He withdrew from the suit a short time afterward.

I take it you guys are not familiar with the term "Pyrrhic victory".

Look it up, it is something to be avoided.

So much for shucking and jiving after each play.

There was another play where his running back reversed field and came back to the other sideline.

Newton was standing there, and I said aloud, “C’mon Cam get out in front of him and block.”

Newton’s a big QB, and I’m sure he could have made a difference for his guy working in a broken field.

The Denver defensive line gave him a little trouble too.
