Right wing hardliner Ted Cruz in driving seat to be Republican candidate for White House

TED Cruz does things differently.

That's precisely how the current contender for the White House first rose to national attention in the US.

He got to his feet in the Senate and embarked on a 21 hour marathon speech, punctuated by bathroom breaks and reading aloud from a Dr Seuss book.

This was his moment. It was 2013, and the dramatic stunt would precipitate the infamous US government shut down.

The speech was intended by Cruz to delay key government business in a bid to make his opposition to Obamacare clear.

Cruz, filling time, read Green Eggs and Ham aloud -- directed, apparently, to his children who were watching him on live TV at home -- when he wasn't eviscerating the President's plans for health care....

Also, only 17% of the government was shut down during the so-called “shut down.”

17% of a goobermint that's probably grown by 200 constant dollar percent in the last 30 years.

Right wing hardliner.

Yeh, that’s going to go over real well with the electorate.

Can you read the bias that they label someone adhering to the Constitution, our highest law of the land, is a ‘hardliner’?

Libs always try to move the goalposts so they look reasonable.

What is currently reasonable to them if you look at their two candidates is

1. free everything to everyone
2. the preferred family unit is LBGT
3. let everyone in that wants in to this country, and the hell with current citizens.
4. release felons from jail so they can vote, steal, rape and murder indiscrimately.

Christie is giving a stupendous performance. Just had seen glimpses of that before. Ted Cruz also is outstanding and knows his stuff, as is Kasich, who never brought much to the table for me before. Bush is stronger tonight than he has been in the past, but maybe too late. Carson is slipping, and doesn’t seem to be called upon much by moderators. Trump is being Trump...he never changes his approach, because he doesn’t need to. Christie is spot on about Rubio...giving his canned speech over and over. I think Rubio is gonna’ slip in the polls after this.

Who would vote for a right winger when they could vote for a socialist? </s>

How could I ever support Ted Cruz over Hillary the felon or Bernie the avowed socialist?

He sent out a rude mailer, and a lot of people don’t like him, and he used to be a Canadian citizen. Scary.

Plus, people say mean things about Ted Cruz, and they might say them about me if I support him.

They forgot the 'Far' part.

Yes, and they even forgot the "extreme."

That's no way to advance the agenda.

Cruz was great tonight. I agree with everything he said. We need a hardliner if we expect to make some real changes.

He was the only one who tried to stop Obama care. The Republican leaders refused to use the power of the purse to stop this disaster.

Well, Ted's bad news in this, that he's the most conservative of all the candidates and I've supported him so far, but he's left Chamber-friendly loopholes in his position on immigration that could be "ball game" in out-years for the entire American Experiment, and now it turns out he wants to do a VAT tax to replace corporate taxes -- take the load and throw it on the People, in an age when Obama's policies and offshoring and H-1B'ing have all reduced family income and employment.

The U.S. standard of living is rapidly retreating to the 1930's, and Ted won't ask his wife to quit Goldman, Sachs?

Not accurate or appreciated in the least. If Ted Cruz is the same politics as usual why is he so hated by the GOP establishment? At least he’s not endorsed by Bob Dole, Scott Brown, Lindsey Graham and a host of other losers who are all flocking to Donald Trump, the serial adulterer and strip club owner.

Great points. Many of the people on this website who are supporting Donald Trump would have been the same people supporting Jerry Ford in 1976 and opposing Ronald Reagan. Cruz is more like Reagan than anyone else in the GOP field.
