How Donald Trump helped Democrats pass Obamacare
Washington Post ^ | June 22, 2015 | Marc A. Thiessen

Posted on 02/04/2016 8:15:40 PM PST by GodGunsGuts

In the announcement speech for his presidential campaign, Donald Trump railed against Obamacare. "We have a disaster called the big lie: Obamacare," Trump declared. "I would repeal and replace the big lie, Obamacare."

Well, that sounds like something a Republican candidate would say. But there is one problem: Trump helped finance the Democratic takeover of Congress in 2006 - which put in place the liberal majority that passed Obamacare over the objections of congressional Republicans. And he continued to support a Democratic Senate majority after Obamacare...

These cruz people and cruz himself are the most dishonest I have ever encountered in 55 years.

Really? I just came from another thread where DT accused Cruz of being behind Obamacare because he liked Justice Roberts... before Roberts's betrayal. Seriously? So it's a-ok to suggest that Cruz is responsible for Obamacare because there was a time he liked John Roberts (as we all did at first) but it's not ok to point out that DT helped finance the Democrats' takeover of Congress in 2006... which he did.

FR is weird these days.

Ah yes, Marc A. Thiessen, speechwriter for George W. Bush. No doubt he is unbiased in this piece.

Just what we need in a Republican candidate.

Didn’t Cruz cast the deciding vote on Robert’s confirmation ?

THIS is what passes for intelligent conversation on FR these days?! How far we have fallen.

In 2010, the Dhimmicraps still controlled both houses of Congress. EVERY Republican voted against 0bamacare, but the Dhimmicraps rammed it through.

Granted, the Republicans have continued to fund it, but it’s just inaccurate to claim that “Obamacare was permitted by the spineless Republican leadership in 2010.”

That Caucus isn’t my little FReeper Caucus.

It’s everyone’s caucus who wishes to participate.

Frankly, I wish many more people would participate.

I don’t like the idea that it looks like we only have 200 regulars each day, but I can’t force folk to expand that impression.

Frankly, I wish we had 2000 people voting there each day. It would certainly represent the forum better. We have the people. They just don’t participate.

That poll was started when I thought Cruz might actually be in the lead here. So much for my little FR Caucus, and the idea I use it to advance Trump.

It was voted on in both houses of Congress. In fact, Scott Brown was elected to be the 41st vote so they wouldn’t be able to break a filibuster, then Reid took a House bill, gutted it, put the 0bamacare bill in its place, and rammed it through on reconciliation.

It is not Trumps words; it is his money. Trump financially supported Harry Reid against the Tea Party right before and after Obamacare. Pelosi too. Get your head out of wherever you have it.

Article shows Trump continued to donate to Reid after the passage of Obamacare.

Cruz wasn’t even in the Senate when Roberts was confirmed. You Trumpkins will say literally ANYTHING to trash the other candidates. That’s why your man is slipping.

Trump built casinos and Cruz defended religious freedom to the Supreme Court. Which one is more useful to the country?

Was there any evidence that Roberts would betray on this issue? I remember looking at his record during the confirmation hearings and he seemed solid at the time. Meanwhile looking at the records of Pelosi and Reid, was there any indication that they would be bad for the country when Trump was throwing money at them and their liberal causes?

In 2010 the Republicans rolled over and allowed the democrats to play games with the rules of the house. If the shoe were on the other foot, the democrats would have stopped a Republican bill.
