Milford, New Hampshire (CNN)Donald Trump on Tuesday said his decision to skip the last Republican debate before the Iowa caucuses may have led to his second-place finish in the Hawkeye State.

"That could've been with the debate," Trump acknowledged to reporters in Milford, New Hampshire, where he was introduced and endorsed by former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown. "I think some people were disappointed that I didn't go into the debate."

"Attending the debate might have cost him the election. It was an ambush aimed solely at taking Trump out."

Exactly right. He made a calculation that the final debate was the last, best chance for the GOP establishment - with FOX moderators as willing accomplices - to take down Trump. He had a lead going in, and thought it would hold up even if he skipped the debate.

Actually, if Trump DID go to the debate, he might have come in third, depending on how hard they went after him, and if anything stuck.

It could have been the margin. But showing up and becoming the central target not just of the other contenders, but of the “interested” YouTube personalities, who were only going to use The Donald for target practice, would not have been much of a paying proposition either.

As Iowa goes, so goes Iowa. “New York City values” do not necessarily play well in Iowa.

Kind of like Peoria.

Trump will say anything and everything. At this point, he’s becoming a parody of himself.

Other than the debate, Trump’s main problem was that he just didn’t want to do the legwork necessary to win a small caucus state like Iowa. Cruz and the rest worked the obligatory small town venues: diners, town halls, local churches, etc, while Trump just held some big rallies and went home. The one-on-one legwork is what sways undecided voters, and then those undecided voters go home and influence their undecided friends and family members.

Our Vets would disagree...
They appreciate his efforts in raising 6 million for them....
....and giving the stage to a wounded Vet to tell his story

Wait a minute I though it was Cruz repeating CNN’s story that caused him to lose Iowa. He needs to pick a whine and stick with it.

repeating a news story is not cheating, no matter who did it. BTW looks like Rubio also spread the CNN story

I hate the liberal media, and yes FOX News is part of it.

Trump not showing up to that stooge debate was a positive

However attacking Megan Kelly for something that happened 6 months ago was a negative. Why rehash that?

He could have just said he isn’t showing up and did his fund raiser, it would have gained him more points (he still may not have won Iowa, that can be fickle, sometimes I think they are voting for Pastor, not president, but it would have helped him on the national stage)

Poor judgment by Donald Duck, afraid of tough questions from a girl, thinking his ego can carry the day.

I used to like Trump, but the more I see of him, not so much.

Cruz cheating cost Trump Iowa.

I agree

Also, Cruz went to the debate and Bimbo Ho Kelly tried and failed to take Cruz out. If Trump was there Trump would also have been attacked. FOX doesn’t like anyone who isn’t GOPe

Besides, the great press Trump got with his raising $6 million for the Vets was the bigger story, the debate didn’t have big viewership. People are tired of debates now that we can vote.

In my opinion, Trump could end up sabotaging himself.

He seems to be losing it. He needs to pull himself together.

Nobody really expected him to win Iowa, a do or die state for Cruz.

Trump said this morning on Morning Joe that he would not have changed a thing or done anything differently. He raised 6 million for vets in one hour!

The fact that he would give FNC and that bitch Kelly a chance to dance on his Iowa grave makes me question his sanity.
