Donald Trump just accused Ted Cruz of stealing the Iowa caucuses over the Cruz campaign's admission that it helped spread a rumor that Ben Carson was dropping out of the race:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Ted Cruz didn't win Iowa, he stole it. That is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated. Bad!

--SNIP--

Update 2. Oh boy:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified. 9:28 AM - 3 Feb 2016

This sure is an interesting election. Run a ship shape straight up honest campaign, and if you do not and get caught, look out because here it comes.

You completely discredit yourself when you claim the media has been very friends to Cruz.

Whatever....it is my observation and truth. You have your butt so far up Cruz that you are blind.

Nothing remotely mysterious or suspicious about Rubio's rise.

There are a significant number of Republican who don't like Trump and who either don't like Cruz or think he is unelectable. The problem for many of those voters is that no consensus alternative had emerged. So, many of them were still undecided, or were splintered among other candidates.

When Rubio moved into third place with 15%, he became the obvious non-Cruz/Trump alternative. A solid debate performance helped as well. So all those people who were looking for an alternative gravitated to him late, and so his numbers went way up.

Entry polls showed that Rubio did very well among those who decided late, and particularly among those who prioritized winning the general election.

Now, maybe you think that's a dumb reason to vote for someone in the primary, but a lot of folks disagree. I've got family members on the East Coast who leaned Christie, but are now switching to Rubio because they think he has a better chance of beating Trump/Cruz, and winning the general.

All completely rational, no conspiracy or cheating required.

Well while he’s doing his manipulation of media they and the public are pretty much getting bored with his antics.

I don’t know. Although what WAS up with their turnout? True that democrats are generally lazy & disinclined to put themselves out. They seem(ed- I haven’t checked on them very much lately) pretty polarized between Clinton & Sanders. So I wouldn’t have thought they’d have abandoned that. They do hate Cruz more than Trump- probably Rubio the least, from what I could tell.

The account I read (& I wish I had bookmarked it) said that there were 4000 (surely they meant 400 unless it was an awfully big place) people crammed into a room. Previously, the supporters of each single candidate went into a room, voted, counted & that was it.

This time, there were tables set up. People just voted for whoever. No one could tell who had voted before & who hadn’t. People could get a second ballot & vote multiple times- no one would know the difference. It sounded like a real mess.
It didn’t sound like they were even checking IDs. (Do they not have voter reg cards in Iowa?) I don’t recall who this person/ couple supported. Not Cruz, I guess.

I had heard several reports, Monday night, that they’d run out of ballots.

They weren’t prepared, at all, for so many people.

For these reasons, I don’t think a repeat would be unreasonable, but for the sake of only 1 delegate, it would be hardly worth it, I think.

So on Caucus night, my wife and I are eating in a Mexican Restaurant and they have CNN on.

About a quarter to 7, the report comes on that says Carson is going home after Iowa.
I turned to my wife and said, “Looks like he isn’t going to campaign anymore”.

I took it that way, she took it that way, Cruz’s team and Rubio’s team apparently took it the same way.

The news got passed around, as you would expect it to.
Now Trump and Palin are up in arms that somehow this cost Trump Iowa.

I have some advice for Trump, Palin, and Carson, and everyone else who thinks Cruz and Rubio did something underhanded or dirty.

Go ahead and call CNN and tell them all about it.

"What serious presidential candidate takes a break to fly home and get a change of clothes. Carson shot himself in the foot with this..Making an announcement like this the day of the caucus, and then CNN reporting on it was what caused the problem."

Exactly. Carson did it to himself.

Post #37 has the Tweet from CNN. (About 1 hour before the caucus started. )

Anyone who read that would think Carson was dropping out. It also shows that Rubio's campaign did the same as Cruz's. It's tellling that no one is calling for Rubio to apologize. And why isn't Carson asking for CNN's apology?

But as for Trump-This is yet another example of Trump throwing a fit because things didn't go his way.

(If anything, Bernie is the one who should be demanding a new caucus.)

His (Trump's) numerous Twitter-tantrums, statements that seem to support leftist policies- single payer healthcare, EPA, Ethanol exc..past support of the Clinton's, Reid, Pelosi-These are all reasons why Trump is not my first choice for the primary election.

There's nothing to show that Trump will do what he's promised-And he keeps altering his stands on the issues too. It's why Cruz has my support.

Cruz IS the Constitutional conservative in the race.

He has the ability to win.

He knows about media BS, and unlike Carson, will not let them set him up.

Of all the candidates, Cruz has the most consistent record of supporting conservative issues.

We need to get back to the Constitutional, and Free Market principles that made our country great.

Cruz is the guy who can put us back on track.

He and Carson should both call for Cruz’s win to be nullified. Especially Carson. What Cruz did to him was right out of James Carville’s playbook.

“Didn’t Romney claim a win in Iowa before it was proven he lost?”

I don’t know about that, but in the general election there were so many places across the country that had 100% (or more) voter turn out, all voting for the same candidate, and it wasn’t him. He didn’t do a thing about it. It was sickening.
