Cruz has 'strongest ground game' in Tennessee, campaign director says

NASHVILLE -- Fresh off GOP presidential hopeful Ted Cruz's Monday night victory in Iowa's caucuses, the head of U.S. Sen. Cruz's Tennessee campaign says it has the "strongest ground game" going in the Volunteer State.

The campaign also sought to provide new momentum here by announcing an additional nine Tennessee legislators who are endorsing the Texas Republican, bringing the total legislative endorsements to 18.

That's "10 more legislators than the next closest GOP candidate," Stephen Siao, Cruz state director, said in an email to reporters. We will also announce a county chair for each of TN's 95 counties, which no other campaign has achieved this cycle, and no GOP campaign achieved in 2012 or 2008.

"We have," Siao declared, "the strongest ground game by far of any GOP campaign in TN."

The list of new endorsements includes state Sen. Janice Bowling, R-Tullahoma, and state Sen. Jim Tracy, R-Shelbyville.

Others are: state Sens. Mark Green, R-Clarksville; Joey Hensley, R-Hohenwald; Frank Niceley, R-Strawberry Plains; Rep. Tilman Goins, R-Morristown, and Rep. Ron Lollar, R-Memphis.

If this is the best example of Christian we can show the country, we’re in sad sad sad shape.

We’re in TN and know NOBODY who is voting for Cruz. I’m sure there are some down in the hollers smokin’ their corncob pipes and chuggin’ the ‘shine. But we don’t know them.

Excellent description of the political Ground Game.

Of course, money is the life's blood of the whole campaign--but, without the soldiers on the ground doing all those myriad things that have to be done to get the voter into the booth and pulling the right lever, all the money in the world has nowhere to go.

I live in West Tennessee and Cruz has a lot of support here. Our kids live in Nashville and they just switched from Trump to Cruz.

Oh, yeah. That makes sense. The farther west you go, the more liberal. That’s one of the first things I learned about TN when we moved there — the “three Tennessees” theory. Interesting.

She’s probably referring to early voting, which begins on the 10th.

Trump has activated their swarming switch and now they must hive AND sting or die. Notice we leave their threads be. DT brings out the hidden worst in FReepers.. they’re becoming unglued over their loss. Reportedly its this way at all sites, not just here.

Tennessee is solidly Republican. Memphis is more liberal because it has a large population of Black Democrats, but the rest of West Tennessee is very Conservative.

WHAT IS A FREAKING GROUND GAME..?!?!!

They go around knocking on doors begging for money, shamming people into voting — and telling them everyone has dropped out except Daddy Cruz’ Anointed Son.

East Tennessee is indeed a great place. I love visiting there and if I ever moved again would love to live there.

A ground game is community organizing. Community Organizing is not ideological. It is strategy and tactics. It is using brains and hard work.

Example. 7 Precincts went 55% D. I went door-to-door to every door including illegal Mexican and Asian immigrants, registered citizens, non-registered, Democrats, Republicans, everyone. I came across others who would join me, the wife of the Black pastor, a home schooler, a Marine recently discharged.

I personally registered about 300. My associates registered some also.

The next election was off year local with 3 slates running:
The incumbent slate of the RINO governor.
The Union Democrat slate.
Our anti-establishment, pro-life, low-tax slate.
We shifted the 7 precincts from 55% D to 65% R.

The next election the RINO candidate for governor was extremely anti-Hispanic. Since my 7 precincts were heavily Hispanic and Black and Asian no amount of ground game could overcome the RINO candidate disaster of 27%.

I moved out of the area. The Black pastors wife (think Alan Keyes) took over. She increased my 65% to 87% for the small government slate against a slate where the RINOs and Union Dems had a combined slate.

That is a ground game. Knocking on doors. Getting people to vote for your candidate because you ask them to. Most people do not vote ideological. They vote for who they think is friendly and their friend.
