Cruz would consider restoring combat ban for women as president
Washington Examiner ^ | January 31, 2016 | Jacqueline Klimas

Sen. Ted Cruz said he would reconsider opening all ground combat positions to women if elected the next commander in chief.

Cruz promised to take another look at the administration's decision late last year to open all positions to women. The administration's move ignored a request from the Marine Corps to keep some frontline combat positions male-only after some studies showed women were more likely to be injured and perform worse.

"The Marine Corps request [for exceptions] must be reconsidered," Cruz wrote in response to a Center for Military Readiness survey released Sunday. "As long as the requirements are fair and universally applied, the military must always place the best person for the job at hand, whether male or female, but we cannot let political correctness compel the military to lower its standards."

Readiness...with half the training time because of zero’s cuts and Congress.

The helo crash in Hawaii, the loss of 12 Marines, was hinted at being caused by lack of readiness when the commander was replaced 3 days or so before.

Cruz either would consider it or he is running for president and makes a strong statement on this and all important issues.

He would not win against Hillary

It's not a question of repeating Normandy and Inchon. In what universe have you been living?

We had hundreds of thousands of troops fighting a ground war in Iraq just a few years ago. Not just spec ops, but standard Army and Marine infantry, tank, and artillery units. Unless you were holed up like the Unabomber, I can't imagine how you could possibly have missed that.

I've been to too many funerals of combat Marines in the last decade plus to accept your bizarre contention that it just doesn't happen anymore because it isn't Normandy or Inchon.

omen want to be "equal", then let them be in all-female units.

This isn't a game.

No it’s not.

That’s why they need to see it first-hand. Maybe then they will get the hint.

If they dont belong in combat then they don’t belong in the military

Agree. All male armed forces would be perfect.

Well in all of the head-to-head polling, he does a lot better against Hillary than Donald does.

Yeah, what he said.

Women-in-combat is a subversive plan to render the U.S. military combat ineffective so that it become politically impossible to deploy them against any but the weakest of enemies, those who cannot counter our technological advantage and whom we will not have to engage in close combat.

But, hey, it probably won’t be me or anyone I know or care about, so have at it.

Please put: “I am/am not a veteran of the armed forces” at the beginning of your post so I can skip over the civilian comments with out wasting my time on them.

and about 1/3 of those troops were women and we did just fine. I don’t know how you could have missed that. The MOS that were/are restricted to males is failry small in the overall military.

The “ship has sailed” regarding women serving in the US military, and it is not going back to port. The way large scale military operations are now planned and waged, the technology we use, is unisex based on brains, fitness and will to serve. Yeah we still have the big OPlans for invasions and amphibious landings etc. But as we showed in DESERT STORM and again in 2003 and after, we don’t need an all male force to carry them out.

Nor might I argue do we HAVE the high number of capable males to do so.. Every time I see a teenage kid arguing about his right to be smoking pot I don’t want HIM in my military. Now on that, I am old school

Did my time. Said my piece here. Done.

alright Bruce, tell me when and where in what theater we are going to repeat Normandy and Inchon and I’ll agree to consider the argument that the ladies need to get out of the military and come home and work the factories and farms- by presidential decree

Well, you just beat the hell out of that strawman, didn't you?

Nobody here is arguing that all women should be removed from the military. This is in reference to the very recent, very specific order the President issued to the Service Heads requiring them to open all MOS's/ratings to women.

That order was issued despite the (by far) most complete, professional analysis of the impact such a mandate would have, which was conducted and completed by the Marine Corps. It was a clear example of a social justice crusade trumping military effectiveness.

The ship has sailed regarding women serving in the US military,

Bullsh!t, I will never believe that the US military will relegate itself to second class status. The wake up call is coming.

Agree. All male armed forces would be perfect.

I don't agree with that. There are a buttload of jobs in the military that, frankly, are being done by lard-ass males with zero physical ability. Plenty of ways that women can (and do) contribute where the physical differences don't come into play.

There are legitimate arguments about MOS restrictions, but just as one example, there are "cyber-warriors" in pretty much every branch right now, and there is no earthly reason to exclude women from those positions.

On the contrary many here are arguing that all women should be removed from the military

And I was responding to your comment about recent large scale military operations and how I must not have been aware. If only you knew

Now- Good day

A country with about 50 million military aged men doesn’t need ONE female in uniform.

The MOS that were/are restricted to males is failry small in the overall military.

Comparing the number of restricted MOS' is the wrong metric, because some MOS's have a hell of a lot more troops in them. And again, in the case of the Marine Corps, the ground combat arms MOS's are the very core of their mission.

Your "it's not really a big deal argument" is just tunnel vision coming from someone who did not serve in a ground combat MOS.

Betcha I was right on the Chair Force, too. Can always tell a Zoomie.

You just can't tell them much.

People forget that we are in the nomination period. Cruz, along with everyone else but Trump, is enjoying the occasional media adulation. Once the race vs Hillary is on, those gloves come off. The media will do everything it can to destroy the nominee. Without a break. Without regard for the truth, the constitution or life itself not even the media outlet’s own survival. It will use mockery and propaganda. What drudge did to Cruz yesterday will look like a bad Facebook post in comparison

They’ll do it to Trump. But Trump will not care any more tgan he already has proven that he does not care

Not that Trump is better at being president than anyone. But that he’s the only one who can beat Hillary and the media which she owns

As an alternative, we could consider establishing a completely separate Women’s Military. Let them recruit, train and operate separate and independent of the actual military, and let them declare whatever foreign wars strike their fancy provided they wage them on their own. But also allow citizens to opt out of the financial support.

Or we could just ban sarcasm entirely.
