The personalized letters target individual Iowa voters and identifies them as having failed to vote in prior elections. They are admonished and then encouraged to vote this year. In addition the letters identify the neighbors of the voter, and provides their voting history.
The text reads:
"You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors' are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday's caucuses".
In an effort to shame the recipient, the notice also informs the targeted voter their neighbors have also been notified of the recipients poor voting record.

I’m a Cruz supporter, but I don’t like that letter. Given the style changes in the daily need-more-money emails I get, I can believe it was from someone related to the campaign.
Senator Cruz needs to go back to the message about his vision of how to lead America forward. This garbage doesn’t work.
You might want to look at the expenditures of the Cruz supporting Super Pac’s as they are rolling out.
I don’t think Ted is a bad guy, I think he has some bad people around him, who are self interested.
That is why I keep linking to Mercer. He is fighting a huge IRS tax bill. Feels wrong to be done at the expense of your candidate.
Then I guess other campaigns are more careful about exposing their creepy vote stalking, unlike Cruz here.
I can understand sending a letter saying we see you haven’t voted in recent times, we are asking you to vote this time for X candidate please.
But saying we are going to show your neighbors you voting habits!?

He could have done it with out all of the personal information.
It would have been simple and more effective as there would not be the blowback that this caused.
Big mistake on the part of his campaign.
If the Cruz campaign didn't put out these letters, they wouldn't be letting hour after hour go by without a denial.

Cruz needs to send a sincere (i.e. written as a Christian rather than a lawyer) letter of apology to anyone who got the “shaming letter” and anyone whose name appeared on a shaming letter.
They won’t arrive in time to change anyone’s vote on Monday, but it might help in the long run.
Regardless, it would be the right thing to do.
You could be right, but it may be a problem with Cruz due to the type of person who is attracted to his candidacy. time will tell. It will depend upon the segment of voters they sent it to. I believe the campaign when they say it is targeted because direct mail is the most expensive method to reach voters. That is why Carson blew through so much of his money so early.
This was not sent out by a rival campaign. I feel very confident about that.
I think the long run for the Cruz campaign just ended.

Could be a set-up, can’t believe anyone would be so stupid as to think they would gain by this. -—Unless it’s some sort of “false flag” deal by some other campaign (even that seems ludicrous), more likely some moron on his own, or some less-than-intelligent PAC.
I get one every month from the power company but it shows “similar homes in your neighborhood”, not names or addresses. I used to get a little alarmed to be in the middle until I reasoned that in the summer I have a pool filter going besides the a/c, attic fan and dehumidifier, and in the winter I do not have an oil or gas bill (electric heat).
Now I take it that I am doing pretty good and toss it.
From a mental health point of view your way is most likely the best way to handle the “shaming” tactics now apparently being used by some power companies and political campaigns. I will tell you however that our local power company stopped their campaign after getting many very nasty responses like mine. My guess is that outrage expressed over this from the Cruz campaign might prevent them from pulling this kind of stunt in other states.
So if you want to just live your life in the least stressful way then just continue ignoring this type of thing. But when many people express their outrage it sometimes causes entities to drop the Orwellian Big Brother crap that the people who are too smart by half sometimes come up with.
Some of Ted’s PAC commercials have been decent, but this is stupid. Remember, tedcruz.org is barred BY LAW from having any contact with these groups, as stupid as the law is.

It isn’t hard to get lists of voters and non-voters registered as Republican. In my county, I was working for a (failed) candidate 4 years ago in my county, and on my say-so and $26 they gave me a list of everyone in the county.
Vulnerable for a lawsuit, for sure, but nobody will figure it out until after the caucus, and some people get pretty cranked up.
I have always voted, but really, I have come to understand why others do not. There is so much digital election fraud, one wonders whether it’s worth it.
For example, I used to live in the Phila suburbs. The inner city election workers publicly stated that they would always wait to report the numbers until their bosses made the call to them, telling them what # to report. Their bosses waited until the rest of Penna. reported, then Phila and Pittsburgh would report. Time after time, more people “voted” than actually lived in the precincts. Now, everyone knew this, yet nothing every happened to hold them accountable. I guess that’s why some people think it’s a waste of time.
I don’t see anything wrong with them. Electric companies use them all the time.
As a matter of fact, this has been done before. Experts say it works.
Apparently, They have a “professor” advising the campaign that used the identical tactic in a race in Alaska. He supposedly told them that it was very effective previously. If you do an internet search there is detailed information already out there.
This is BS and you know it.
If he was a naturalized citizen, as opposed to natural born, where are his naturalization papers...?
