Cruz Campaign Solicitations
January28,2016 | grania

Since the holiday break, Cruz campaign donation solicitations have been ubiquitous. Today I received a phone solicitation. The caller was very polite and in that respect represented the Cruz campaign well.

The spiel was that if I donate any amount, no matter how little, it would be tripled by some other donor. I asked who that other donor is, and that I was concerned if that person gave three times as much as I did, they'd have three times the impact. The caller said he'd check with an advisor and get back to me.

He did so. The answer was that for privacy reasons the donor insisted to remain anonymous. I said that I'd much rather that three times any money I gave to a campaign be given to Veterans!

So much for "grass roots". I thought perhaps a thread where we shared our experiences with solicitaitons from the Cruz campaign might be enlightening.

Please share this with others.

Will you be sharing with others when the general election (which Trump said he would not “self-finance”) season approaches and numerous solicitations for TRUMP are inbound—to almost all of us who are, almost in any way, donors to conservative political causes?

I don’t understand your point.

“So much for “grass roots”. “

Sadly, the ‘grass roots’ has been hijacked to finance a bunch of K Street lobbyists....Americans for prosperity, Freedom works, several ‘tea parties’. Most of our ‘conservative’ institutions, even the NRCC & NRSC, are running scams to fool Trump supporters out of campaign contributions.

I finally blocked all solicitations from @tedcruz.org The deluge was embarrassing. Gave to Cruz twice and gave up when the real fighter came to the fore. His campaign hasn’t asked for a dime.

I got a call from the Cruz team yesterday. He thanked me for my previous contribution. I said that I had made that before I found out that Ted Cruz was ineligible to be President. The response was that Ted was a citizen because of his mother. I said I agreed with that, but he was not a natural-born citizen because he was born in Canada to a non-American father. He thanked me for my time and terminated the call. Probably I am off the list.

I would never, under any circumstances, donate any money, to any cause, from a phone solicitation. Not once.

I would never trust who was calling me with my information.

I’ve never had any trouble finding those I want to support online.

I donated to the Cruz campaign when he first announced. The donation requests became overwhelming very soon after.

Once Trump announced and I switched due to Ted’s votes, I told the Cruz campaign that I support Trump.

The begging stopped.

I must say:

where I was once "almost" on the fence about Cruz vs. Trump I am now quite convinced Trump is too petty, sexist, "monarchichal" or Napoleonic and plain old silly and self-absorbed to be President.

There: I said it.

I get solicitation emails from all of the Repub candidates except Trump. It is not isolated to only Senator Cruz.

Note: Honesty is the best policy. A ‘lie-by-omission’ is still a lie.

Unless the solicitor was working for a PAC, there is a maximum that can be given.

Thanks for sharing this. I too got a Cruz telephone solicitation this morning from this bogus number: 832-431-1458. The solicitor announced his name and that he was calling on behalf of the Cruz campaign saying that billionaire Toby Neugebauer would match my contribution.

This despite my repeated requests that I receive no further calls! I went from a Cruz donor and booster to revulsion after the avalanche of emails at my various emails and text addresses looking for money. I lost my composure with this call.

All this money grubbing turned me away from the candidate...

I had to explain this to my wife. You give to one group, and it’s like chumming the water. Once they’ve drained you, then they sell your info. to similar groups: those who take 98% and give 2% (minus their expenses), to the charity they purport to represent.
That’s just another bonus for Trump. He’s not standing there with his hand out.
On top of that, if you are the widow giving a mite, you don’t wonder if the corporation (US Chamber of Commerce, SEIU, whatever) that itemizes such things is getting a political IOU while all you get is another request for C-note.
Admit it or not, Cruz is piling up IOUs. Trump is not.

That’s what I was thinking. It has to be a PAC, not a direct-to-the-candidate fundraiser.

If that were to happen, whoever is initiating campaign solicitations as heavy handed and ubiquitous as these have been, I would of course share my irritation.
