Is Donald Trump the sharia of American politics? I'm having trouble finding much daylight between Islamic law's repressive blasphemy standards and the mogul's thin-skinned sense of privilege.
None of us wants to be insulted or smeared. But sharia forbids not only ridicule or slander against Islam; it bans any examination that casts Islam in an unflattering light. Worse, truth is not a defense: Even if one's questions are based on undeniable past actions or verbatim quotes from scripture, tough questioning is considered blasphemous. Retribution, moreover, is often completely out of proportion to the scale of the perceived "offense."
How is Trump different?
They say politics ain't beanbag: People in and around it eventually get slammed by opponents and other critics. But to Trump, the mildest criticisms are "vicious" attacks.
Let's take the exchange last summer with Megyn Kelly that prompted Trump to whine that he was unfairly treated and to heap abuse on Ms. Kelly in the aftermath. (Before I go on, note that I support Mr. Trump's rival Ted Cruz, and that I am on friendly terms with Megyn Kelly, on whose program I periodically appear.) Given the limited time, the slew of candidates to engage, and the grave problems faced by the country, could Kelly have made a better choice than to grill Trump on his derogatory remarks about women? As they say in the debate biz, that's debatable. But the questions she asked were hardly irrelevant..

Talk is cheap. Show us those Cruz supporters that say they will refuse to vote for Trump in the General Election.

There’s the rub. No “conservative” candidate represents Americans and America. They race to the microphone to talk about representing foreigners over Americans, from wanting more H-1B tech visas to enter the country to take American jobs, to supporting American companies sending manufacturing overseas, to allowing even more imported goods while America gets shafted on trying to export to those very same countries.
Unfortunately the country will suffer because of it.
It has been my observation that trudging through 12 inch deep manure for a year will kill you faster than swimming through the deep stuff for a short period.
With ya until I see who all these “great people” are that he talks about and come to think of it, still haven’t seen any quotes from his 2000 campaign book.
Out of respect for our civil discussion, and in hopes of understanding how another perceives, would you please copy and paste insults from the article? I want to understand.

This is really interesting to watch. Here we have the absolute first Republican candidate who effectively stands up to the current political order that is leading this country to perdition, and they don’t like his “tone.” (I know, I know, Ted Cruz called Mitch McConnell a liar on the floor of the Senate! However, the only thing that Ted Cruz has been able to stop was the Gang of Eight Amnesty Bill. Since then, everything he has tried to stop has become law.)
The really interesting thing is that Andrew complains about Donald Trump’s name calling by calling Donald Trump names!! “Irrational, mercurial, draconian, solipsist — all wrapped up in a neat little persecution complex.” (BTW, solipsism means: “extreme preoccupation with and indulgence of one’s feelings, desires, etc.; egoistic self-absorption.”, I looked it up. So a solipsist must be someone who practices solipsism.)
What’s more, the article is “all about Megyn”. Not once does Andrew mention any of the current issues in the campaign. (Folks, abortion and the sanctity of human life are no longer issues in the United States. They are settled law. Baby killing is legal, and only Black Lives Matter.)
So we are left to conclude that the most important thing in this election is that we elect a President who won’t call people names that are not erudite and polysyllabic. With the exception that it is OK for Andrew’s candidate, Ted Cruz, to call Mitch McConnell a liar on the floor of the Senate. If Ted were following Andrew’s rules he would have had to call Mitch a prevaricator.
Well, tonight is going to be a very interesting night! Donald Trump has counter programmed the politically correct ruling class, and the futures market (online polls) say he is going to get the biggest audience. We are going to take our country back and Make America Great Again!
How will a Trump presidency fit into what we know is brewing (Orks)? Will it delay or infuriate? Will NYC now have a brighter lazer beam shining on it?

I appreciate the rational discussion, as well.
I object to the false equivalence of Trump to Islam. The premise is that a politician cannot defend himself, and to do so rises to the level of a political system antithetical to our representative republic. The article does not “actively” insult readers (pardon my previous hyperbole), but specifically requires the reader to believe that passive acceptance of insult, innuendo, and lies (such as what GWB did) is required of a republican politician.
NRO is actively opposing a major segment of the republican base, in concert with the party leadership itself.
In the end, it is possible they actually DO know better than Trump supporters. But to use that as their lead?
Four years ago, there were big flame wars on this site about whether or not Romney was an “acceptable” candidate. The answer came down that he had to be - he was the only alternative. There was a LOT of this discussion prior to Romney locking up the nomination.
Now we are seeing the obverse of that coin. The establishment doesn’t like the peoples’ collective wisdom, so they are in full beat-down mode trying to change it. 2012 has direct impact on 2016 - and it limits the authority of the establishment in swaying the base.
The GOPe has become the proverbial abusive husband, and the conservatives who make up the abused “wife” have reached a breaking point.
I, personally, have come to evaluate any information coming from a source which has a vested interest in light of the forces at play. The tactics employed tell me a lot about the quality and trustworthiness of the information conveyed.

This ain’t some playground game of marbles, where you can just pick up your marbles and run away when you take a little hit.
I’m beginning to get a feeling a President Trump’s super thin skin could really get us into a serious, maybe even nuclear, conflict when his feelings get hurt.
America is at a most crucial crossroads. We will either make the correct re-direction or the wrong one. Skating another four years will just push her over the cliff.
The decision, and the previous consensus here was that Conservatism was the only philosophy that can right America’s ship, morally and financially.
Now due to Trump’s pushing our buttons and catchy sound bytes, many previously conservative people, here and across America, are willing to close their eyes to both Trump’s past and what he now actually says.
Trump followers are now exactly where nobama followers were in 2008, when anyone willing to look at his history and listen to what he is actually saying was blindly ignored by his fervent followers and who used some of the very same rhetoric against nobama nay-sayers as Trump followers use today.
For anyone willing to open their eyes to truth, we are faced with two very different philosophies, practicing conservative principles or making deals with those that do not have America’s best interests in their heart (Reid, Peelousi, klintoon, progressives).
Wasn’t it “Art of the Deal” what got God out of schools, abortion, homo-marriage, freeloader welfare society, political correctness and cronyism? It sure as hell looks like it from this conservative viewpoint.

Thin skinned OR fighting back?
Are you not one of the “we are mad as hell and we are not going to take it anymore” crowd? If not, why not? Trump is, I am, the American people are.
Do you want to know why Trump is popular. Because he doesn’t put up with the usual crap from the usual people sitting in the seats of power.
Whether or not Trump would be a great president is up for debate. We know what to expect from the rest of the crowd, Cruz included and it will not result in anything resembling a “revolution”. Trump is a gamble I’m willing to take.
