The charity for wounded veterans, the Wounded Warrior Project, is facing accusations of using donor money toward excessive spending on conferences and parties instead of on recovery programs, according to a CBS News report.

Wish I could say this is unique or an aberration, but it is standard practice among most large charities. Most of the money goes to fundraising and organization and only a token amount goes to actually fulfill the mission.
The Boy Scouts of America clearly showed that this won’t be ending anytime soon by selling the boys to the predators in exchange for corporate support of their ever growing full time staff.
I’ve heard this before about WW wasteful use of monies collected.
I do hope Donald chooses other Vet organizations or ways to actually help vets and not just line pockets. Or as others stated donate to toward Vote Orgs that may help stop vote fraud and such.

Good question. I understand that Fisher House does good work. But I'm no expert as to which group is best, so I just go with what I know: the Salvation Army.
I used to donate to WW heard these rumors couple of years ago stopped donating!! Same with Red Cross when I found out Dole was making $500,000.00 a year not a penny from me any longer!! Salvation Army is much better with their funds!! As much as I can’t stand O’Reilly EVERY PENNY goes to the causes I have donated quite a bit to the campaign for the special chairs for WW !!!

I've heard these allegations before and I've wondered about it myself. When I still used to watch Fox News, WW ran ads on every single commercial break. I wondered if they were getting free advertising and if not how much were they wasting of donors money to run those ads? I checked them out on Charity Navigator and they got a fairly high rating. With that in mind I've continued making contributions.
Not true. According to Charity Navigator.org they spend over 84% of the money they raise on Wounded Warriors and their families. That's as of two or three months ago, the last time I checked.
That is exactly what Charity Navigator says about Wounded Warrior Project.

Thanks for posting this. The cost to raise a dollar is .26 cent. This is actually a pretty good number, I sit on the board of two non-profits and our numbers are not this good. And we have a volunteer board.
Side note to The Donald: How about donating all profits from those "Make America Great Again" hats to charity? That would be a nice touch.So you can complain about the wages paid to the charity employees if not the charity itself.
It's just so refreshing to see how willing people are to spend someone else's money...then bitch about how and where it's spent.
According to the responses on this thread, anyone working for a charity should donate all of their time to charity.
Otherwise all of those people complaining about how much people working for charities are paid couldn't agree amongst themselves how much they should be paid.
Apparently some people think we need a maximum wage law for charities...But they won't be able to agree on how much that should be either.
Bottom line is this:
Program Expenses (Percent of the charity's total expenses spent on the programs and services it delivers) - 59.9%
Administrative Expenses - 6%
Fundraising expenses - 34% (All that TV advertising costs a lot of money, after all.)
The Executive Director, Steven Nardizzi, pays himself $473,015, pretty generous for the head of a charity.
So, less than 60% of what they take in goes for the veterans' programs, the top exec makes a lot more than most of the other charity directors, and they seem to claim they do a lot more for veterans than is actually the case.
I heartily suggest that anybody looking for a reputable veteran's charity go out on http://www.charitynavigator.org before you choose.
I personally donate to the Independence Fund and Fisher House Foundation, but check it out for yourselves before you donate to anybody.
Don't let the media dictate your opinion of them. Charity Navigator .org says they're legitimate. There are several other charity watchdogs out there. Check them out yourself. I did and I'm still comfortable giving to them.
I checked them out, and noticed the rating as well. But I am very bothered by the enormous salaries the top people are pulling in. Unfortunately, that's not unusual in the charity world. But it's pretty much of a deal-breaker for me.
This is BS, it’s not about wasting money, the insider who refuses to provide their identity is saying they can do MORE as far as services.

I saw this coming. Some charities are too perfect.
I agree that they spend a lot of money fund raising but if they didn't spend that money what do you think that would do to the overall fundraising? It would devastate it.
Would the fact that Trump had said he was going to fundraise for Wounded Warrior Project on Thursday instead of attending the debate have anything to do with the timing of Fox releasing this story?

But it certainly is not the first time I have heard those kinds of things about the Wounded Warrior Project.
I’m pretty sure (not 100%) that Trump says repeatedly “wounded warriors” - not the specific charity “Wounded Warrior Project.”
