Cruz challenges Trump to one-on-one debate [at the Mark Levin show]

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz says if rival Donald Trump won't face the entire GOP field in Thursday's Fox News debate, then he wants to go one-on-one.

"If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly, I would like to invite him on your show to participate in a one-on-one debate between me and Donald, mano y mano," Cruz said during an interview on "The Mark Levin Show," adding that Trump could choose the moderator.

"And the fact that Donald is now afraid to appear on the debate stage, that he doesn't want his record questioned, I think that reflects a lack of respect for the men and women of Iowa, that he's unwilling to go to Des Moines and be questioned."

Cruz also argued that Trump dropping out of the debate shows that the front-runner isn't qualified to be president.

"This is a job interview, you need to be willing to answer the questions of the American people, and if Donald is afraid to defend his record, that speaks volumes," he said.

"And if he thinks Megyn Kelly is so scary, what exactly does he think he'd do with Vladimir Putin? I promise you Putin is a lot scarier than Megyn Kelly."

Cruz added that Trump needs to explain to voters "how he is prepared to be commander-in-chief if he's terrified of a television host."

The comments came shortly after the Trump campaign announced Tuesday that he would not participate in the Fox News debate on Thursday.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Trump referred to Kelly as "lightweight" and said that she's "not a reporter."

“Why would Trump waste his time with Cruz? Trump has already won.”

The only vote that counts is the one on election day. Trump hasn’t won anything yet. Then again, nor has Cruz.

Suck it Cruz, you’ve ridden his coattails long enough. Time to put on your big boy pants. I’m sure you will destroy Kasich in the weak fox debate with 20 viewers!

Childish names and insults aside, there is just no upside for Trump.

Get some emotional maturity yourself, son. Face reality: Trump is the overwhelming national front-runner, and has absolutely nothing to gain from debating a distant second.

Cruz is no doubt a good conservative but face it: he only gets less than 20% support within his own party. He is going nowhere but back to Texas.

"If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly, I would like to invite him on your show to participate in a one-on-one debate between me and Donald, mano y mano," Cruz said during an interview on "The Mark Levin Show," adding that Trump could choose the moderator.

Now, Ted Cruz is being silly. It is true that the Republican debate will lose most of its audience. Why Fox would self-destruct when they are clearly wrong, is beyond me. They have already tarnished their "We report you decide" with their biased leanings.

I guess we will see what happens to all involved when the front runner does not show up for justifiable reasons.

Mike Savage says that the debates are a huge waste of time. We certainly do not need so many, especially when they are clearly unfair.

- Cruz needs to find a way to get media without the Donald. --

He's got all the time he wants on Levin, and probably Rush.

I wish people (including Cruz) wold stop saying Trump is afraid.

That’s just BS.

Trump is taking a stand against biased and unprofessional debate moderators. Something that is long overdue and that we should applaud him for.

I think a large part of Trump’s support is due to his offensive against the MSM, and this is another instance of his willingness to do battle with them.

I am a Cruz supporter but I think its great that Trump has fought back against biased media.

I don’t think its so great to say Trump is “afraid” or worse, “a coward”.

He’s not either. He’s taking the fight to the lamestream media like so many gutless republican politicians should have been doing years ago.

This is extremely disrespectful to the voters of Iowa, over a third of which are still deciding.

a few years ago there was a TV program where the words from the Lincoln/Douglas debate were made into a movie and 2 actors played the parts..

apparently the debate itself went on for days and the program was over several days weeks 2/3 hours at a time...

it was very good...
