Cruz challenges Trump to one-on-one debate [at the Mark Levin show]

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz says if rival Donald Trump won't face the entire GOP field in Thursday's Fox News debate, then he wants to go one-on-one.

"If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly, I would like to invite him on your show to participate in a one-on-one debate between me and Donald, mano y mano," Cruz said during an interview on "The Mark Levin Show," adding that Trump could choose the moderator.

"And the fact that Donald is now afraid to appear on the debate stage, that he doesn't want his record questioned, I think that reflects a lack of respect for the men and women of Iowa, that he's unwilling to go to Des Moines and be questioned."

Cruz also argued that Trump dropping out of the debate shows that the front-runner isn't qualified to be president.

"This is a job interview, you need to be willing to answer the questions of the American people, and if Donald is afraid to defend his record, that speaks volumes," he said.

"And if he thinks Megyn Kelly is so scary, what exactly does he think he'd do with Vladimir Putin? I promise you Putin is a lot scarier than Megyn Kelly."

Cruz added that Trump needs to explain to voters "how he is prepared to be commander-in-chief if he's terrified of a television host."

The comments came shortly after the Trump campaign announced Tuesday that he would not participate in the Fox News debate on Thursday.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Trump referred to Kelly as "lightweight" and said that she's "not a reporter."

I heard this on the radio tonight. Mark Levin offered to be the moderator but did say that he was willing to have them do a Lincoln-Douglas style debate one-on-one ( how that can be done and in what venue is another matter ).

Go, Ted, go! Donny would pee his pants if he had to face Cruz one-on-one.

Cruz needs to find a way to get media without the Donald. He rode his coattails for six months then popped up and now wants equal time.

Buh bye!

Trump won’t accept because he is a coward and knows that Cruz would humiliate him. Trump is exceedingly shallow on the issues, as well as being emotionally immature.

A good strategic move by Cruz. It’s being picked up by the websites. If it get’s picked up by the tv and cable media it could help Cruz.

More like mano y nino (niño) ;-)
Hey, Teddy should be proud! He will be center stage Thursday night! ;-)
However, if Fox has an empty podium for Trump, then I predict Trump wins the debate! He is going to get my votes!

Why would Trump waste his time with Cruz? Trump has already won.

Ted goes from hiding behind Donald to hiding behind Big Brother Mark Levin. Ted is such an annoying little man.

Trump may be a popular celebrity, but Cruz is a constitutional genius and would flat......eat.....Trump....alive.....in front of a huge radio audience.

Trump maybe many things, but a coward he is not. He has taken on the media like nobody else.

It is my understanding it would be illegal according Rep. party rules to have this kind of debate.

It is. Trump is getting all the media attention and Ted wants in on the action. It will never happen.

Please, please Mr. Trump. I never have a lot of people at my events.

Never mind those silly, nasty, lying things I wrote about you last week.

Nice try ... Levin blew his chance, just like Cruz, by deviously attacking Trump , now they are desperate for Trump’s attention ... too late
