Donald Trump op-ed: My vision for a Culture of Life
Washington Examiner ^ | January 23, 2016 | Donald Trump

Posted on 01/23/2016 8:47:03 AM PST by ironman

Let me be clear - I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk. I did not always hold this position, but I had a significant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me. My story is well documented, so I will not retell it here. However, what I will do with the remaining space is express my feelings about life, and the culture of life, as we just marked the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

I build things. There is a process involved in building things.......The rules for putting structures together are as strict as are the rules of physics. These rules have stood the test of time and have become the path to putting together structures that endure and are beautiful. America, when it is at its best, follows a set of rules that have worked since our Founding. One of those rules is that we, as Americans, revere life and have done so since our Founders made it the first, and most important, of our "unalienable" rights.

Over time, our culture of life in this country has started sliding toward a culture of death. Perhaps the most significant piece of evidence to support this assertion is that since Roe v. Wade was decided by the Supreme Count 43 years ago, over 50 million Americans never had the chance to enjoy the opportunities offered by this country. They never had the chance to become doctors, musicians, farmers, teachers, husbands, fathers, sons or daughters. They never had the chance to enrich the culture of this nation or to bring their skills, lives, loves or passions into the fabric of this country. They are missing, and they are missed.

Why should a baby be murdered when it comes to rape or incest? Is TRUMP really pro-life?

I wonder who wrote this for him. Let me know when Trump actually SPEAKS all these things in this way from out of his mouth.

And, with modern technology, how many mother’s lives are at risk?

All, I am going to stay out of the discussion here. I posted the article since it was just released and I came across it.

So will all the posters that criticized trump yesterday for not making a statement on the anniversary of roe v wade post their apologies? this is a very good editorial in support of life by Trump.

I build things. There is a process involved in building things. We tap into a lot of disciplines with engineering being one of the most important. The rules for putting structures together are as strict as are the rules of physics. These rules have stood the test of time and have become the path to putting together structures that endure and are beautiful.

This important sentence should have been left in...

Technically, every pregnant woman’s life is “at risk.” Until she safely delivers, there is always the chance that something could go catastrophically wrong under circumstances (at home, for example) in which today’s excellent technology can’t help.

Rhetorical question, I hope. I think it is unrealistic to expect them to change their minds, and plus, if a person is put in the uncomfortable position of having to admit error, they tend to dig in.

Most Americans believe abortion (not right in principle) is a necessary evil in very rare circumstances.

That said, I do not support support abortion on demand or the notion it ought to be freely available.

Its wrong and if we’re going to have a culture of life in our country, we must make getting an abortion difficult to procure.

The Left argues restrictions on gun ownership are justified to save lives. By the same measure, abortion should not be an absolute right - our unborn children have a fundamental right to live.

Let’s make a culture of life a reality.

I grade lots of papers. When a student turns in a paper that is totally unlike, in content and/or style, the way the student normally expresses himself, I get suspicious. I wonder who actually wrote this.

I wonder who wrote this for him.

Probably the same one who helped Romney with his pro-life position.

Why should a baby be murdered when it comes to rape or incest?

Strawman question.

The objective of the pro-life movement is to first, talk about a culture of life and change hearts and minds. That's already happening with young people. Then you get taxpayer money out of abortion. Finally, you continue to fight for restrictions at the state level while working long-term at the federal level for a repeal of Roe v Wade or a constitutional amendment.

I agree with you that rape and incest are less than 1% of the reason for all abortions and it's simply a canard that the pro-abortion butchers use to justify their position. However, getting angry because Trump supports this isn't going to help our cause. I applaud Trump for this (he obviously was pressured by pro-lifers on the March for Life anniversary) and this is a good step in the right direction.

Trump said, just a few months ago, that his pro-abort sister the judge would make a “phenomenal” Supreme Court justice. Donny, do you see why conservatives don’t trust you?

Lot of pro-life people have the same view.

Seriously don’t pretend that they dont.

You are right. It sounds nothing like him. If he did not know how to pronounce 2 Corinthians, is he actually going to know what a inalienable right is unless someone whispered it into his ear.

Where are all those snopes.com people when they are actually needed?

Yesterday he was busy tweeting photo shopped pics of Cruz and Bush and making unfounded character attacks. So very presidential.
