Donald Trump says Ted Cruz should leave the presidential race

WASHINGTON— Donald Trump stepped up his attack on Sen Ted Cruz’s eligibility to run for president Wednesday calling for Cruz to drop out of the race.

Donald J Trump
@realDonaldTrump
"Sadly, there is no way that Ted Cruz can continue running in the Republican Primary unless he can erase doubt on eligibility. Dems will sue!"

Trump recently warned the GOP that if Cruz becomes the nominee ,the party would be risking the White House. Trump claims Democrats would hold up the election in court, litigating whether or not Cruz is considered a natural born citizen.

Trump’s views on Cruz’s eligibility have changed throughout the campaign.

The first time he was asked about Cruz’s Canadian birth in 2013, Trump, the loudest ‘birther’ questioning the legitimacy of President Barack Obama citizenship, wasn’t sure if Cruz was qualified. Trump was still not convinced last March, months before announcing his own bid for president. By September, Trump said he was confident Cruz had the legal standing to run.

He will start to go down in the polls. I wish he would just focus on the issues and not attack others and brag about his polling numbers.

Cruz has always been my favorite as well. And never have I criticized Trump. Too bad trump has chosen to pull this kind of “Rat” behavior.

I’m mixing you up with that other one again. You could be the same person?

At least have enough respect for yourself and this board to have some support for accusations. I have made mistakes in my posting and every time I have been called on them, I did man up and own it. I never doubled down.

Will you?

“I think military children are a special category not considered by the Founding Fathers”

To me this is what this whole question boils down to, when considering the question, the Supreme court, Congress will have to take into account the Military, Civil Service born abroad status and Equal Protection will figure into it too. I can imagine the protests if they rule against it.

You mean like Reagan?

No, not like Reagan.

Reagan was a conservative long before he was a Republican.
Trump was a liberal (by his own admission) even when he was registered as a Republican.

Reagan committed to the Republican party and conservatism over 20 years before he ran for President.
Trump changed his party several times just in the last 10 years or so.

Reagan actually worked to elect conservatives and support conservative principles long before he decided to run for office.
Trump worked to elect Democrats and help them control Congress before he decided to run for office.

Reagan treated his opponents with respect and won by persuading large segments of the population that conservative governance would make their lives better and restore America to greatness and prosperity.
Trump is trying to win by attacking and insulting everyone with whom he disagrees, and promising to "make America great" simply because he says he will - trust him!

I am so tired of people trying to compare Trump to Reagan. I knew Ronald Reagan. I worked to elect Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan was my governor and my President. I actually met Ronald Reagan. And while Reagan was not perfect, Trump is surely no Ronald Reagan.

I would agree with you and I'm a Trump supporter. I never expected Trump to be a good debater as he just got into politics a few months ago. I'm actually surprised he's done as well as he's done. Not good, but not as bad as I feared.

I'm also surprised that all the polls consistently have Trump winning those debates. I think debates are a waste of time. People are going to support their guy, no matter what. It's funny how every candidate sets up a "spin room" after the debate and acts like they just hit it out of the park.

“Do they know that Trump was a Democrat?”

So was Reagan.

Trump does not think Reagan was anything special. At least when he co-wrote his book, he didn't.

This is not the first time I have mixed CA up with CW. They have a similar TDS level and attitude. I’m just waiting for CA to call me a trumpanzee again.

Add to that list....John Madden, because to me, Trump is to campaigning, and John Madden is to sports announcing....just repeating loudly, what is obvious to most.

Please don’t even try to compare the two...Reagan was elected & served as a Republican governor before his conservative presidency. OTOH, I have no idea what Trump was or is...

Clearly we need an amendment to our Constitution, explicitly explaining exactly what a natural born citizen is. But it would be good if Cruz could get some form of something from a court just for the purpose of this election.

I believe he is natural born because he was born American. Period.

I had a son outside the USA. He did not need any naturalization or any decision to be made by an authority: he was given his American birth certificate because he was born, just like anyone born here. At the time I did think he wasn’t ever going to be able to be President, because I didn’t understand. Now I do believe that if you are born American you are natural born.

I’d like to see the amendment clearly state that the mother giving birth on American soil would have to be here legally for her child to automatically be given citizenship.

So, educate yourself, and start listening to his campaign speeches.

The office of potus should be held to higher standards. 2 natural born parents, and everyone born in the USA. Hmm, I wonder what example I can point to to illustrate this point?

Not true....check the timeline.....

Trump was out speaking about it WAY before Cruz ever did or said anything...

2013 interview with ABC's Jonathan Karl, Trump responded to the question of whether Cruz was eligible to run by saying, "Perhaps not.

3-23-2015 Donald Trump Goes Birther on Canadian-Born Ted Cruz

09-15-2015 Donald Trump has reversed his position on Ted Cruz's eligibility to run for president, now saying his Canadian birthplace shouldn't disqualify him.

"I hear it was checked out by every attorney and every which way and I understand Ted is in fine shape," Trump told ABC News just before speaking at a Capitol Hill rally blasting the Iran nuclear deal.

Donald Trump: Ted Cruz's citizenship could 'be a big problem'

To those with a brain, it's obvious Donald Trump is using Alinsky-style (Democrat) tactics, attempting to cast doubt on campaign rival Ted Cruz's presidential campaign by calling into question his Canadian birth.

Heh. I have a hard enough time educating myself. The Iowa voters are own their own. I think it’s better if they have the fact that Cruz was born in Canada in mind, but if they don’t, they don’t.

I love Ted Cruz but I’m with Trump and if Cruz wins it I’ll be as reliable as anyone for him. The Cruzers though, have a persecution complex which results in a lying breaking news headline like that. I find the Cruz people trying to break down others instead of jacking up and fixing their own house off putting. Good thing he doesn’t act like they do.
