The Pew Research center has consistently found that millennials are no more likely than older generations to agree that its more important to control ownership than protect the right of Americans to own guns.
In fact, a Reason-Rupe poll, that I helped conduct in 2013, found that millennials were the least likely to say that government should prohibit people from owning assault weapons: 63% of 18-34 year olds thought people should be allowed to own assault weapons, compared to 54% of 35-54 year olds and 36% of those 55 and over.

I think video games played a partial role in that.
Though there are a couple of people on FR that think they’re the spawn of evil.
I think it’s the non-American “U.S. Citizens” who love gun control. They’re mostly cowardly type human beings who wouldn’t fight for their own countries and are counting on the U.S. Government to defend, shelter, feed and provide them with free stuff.
Truth be told, they’re not the least bit interested in getting “problem” guns out of the hands of the people that shouldn’t have them.
If they were truly interested in reducing “gun violence”, they’d target the people that by law, are already prohibited from possessing firearms, like probationers and parolees. Imagine how many guns they might recover by conducting unannounced searches and seizures of convicted criminals houses, apartments, or wherever they may find them.
There’s no such thing as an illegal search of a convicted criminal under the conditions of active probation or parole. Not only would that remove guns from those that shouldn’t have them, it would act as motivation to obey the law, or returning those to prison that are failing to abide by their conditions of release from custody.
No, the real reason for the Left’s assault on the second amendment is their thirst for more power and control of US. After all, if everyday American citizens can no longer defend ourselves, we’ll be begging for more and bigger government (more police, more government and more of everyone associated with the industry) to protect us helpless subjects from the bad guys they’ve empowered.
It’s win/win for them.
I know a lot of millenials and every one of them wants an ar-15 and an ak and they plan on buying them.
I see the youngsters at gun shows. Although its something of a national sport to decry to morals and attitudes of youth, I think the 20-30 year olds are the greatest. Smart, funny, and committed to American values. They’re also being screwed by the economy and the politicos. And they know it.
Yeah, but they’re losing.
What they need to understand is that ‘control’ of individual liberty is what the left is all about.
These kids have concluded that the Baby Boomers destroyed society — and don’t see any reason why things here can’t get as bad as they are in places like Syria.
the first sentence doesn’t seem to jibe with the rest of the article. or is it me? probably me lol
If you want to expand support for gun rights, take a voter to the gun range.
I suspect younger people are so used to dishonest, over-reaching big brother government that they know they can’t trust it, as opposed to older generations who tended to think whatever the government did was right and fair. The schools and colleges that have been teaching anti-American propaganda for generations are facing a big blowback from their own teachings.
There are a lot of Baby Boomer names on the Wall. Including many of my brother Marines.
Tell the Millenials.
I’m an old fart.
oh NO more likely. my mistake as usual :)
You beat me to it but you’re right. Kids raised in the ‘80s and 90s playing Nitendo and Mortal Kombat know that what kills bad guys is a weapon and that weapon is a gun. They’re not stupid. It’s like finding out on your own at six years old there is no Santa Claus yet your parents are trying to make you believe there is and you’re wondering to yourself “WTF are they talking about? You’re telling me that a fat guy in a red suit comes down the freaking chimney with free stuff? Whos the adult here?’’ Well Grandma Hillary and old Uncle Bernie are telling me gun control will work like magic to make all the bad people stop using guns but that ain’t happening. Bad guys don’t play by the rules and I have to and I might not be able to exercise my right to own a firearm. Whos the adult here?
I frequent IMGUR which is left and young for the most part, but I’ve noticed a fairly strong contingent of 2nd amendment/gun enthusiasts on there. It was surprising and refreshing to see.
Me too. Getting too old to give a rip anymore. Take me now Lord.
I patiently await the day that someone will define an ‘assault weapon’.
