I'm starting to think all LEO must were a camera at all times while on duty and not be able to turn it on or off; even in the bathroom. I say this because if they don't want to be filmed while doing their job; what other things do they have to hide besides normal body noises.
I bet he’s running as a pubbie too, right?
to criminalize close-up filming of police in public.

Does this show their pores???
Good. This is a common sense approach. There are good guys and there are bad guys. LEOs are the good guys. Harassing them is counter productive.
I really should have spell checked this before posting.. Sheesh!
“...Times Square and other New York-area transit areas...”
I stopped right there.
Nope. Higher courts already have ruled as long as you do not interfere, you have a right to record cops in public.
Camera tech is getting so cheap and so small that the 10 dollar 1080p camera pin that you can stick on your shirt is surely coming soon.
And flash density is going up as prices go down.... that 10$ pin on cam will record for many hours... perhaps even days.
Everyone will be wearing the things to record their daily events.
You will have to make them illegal to keep cops from being recorded.
They could have blue tooth transfer to your smartphone so that instant upload to the net could be done... can’t destroy the video even by confiscating the cameras.
Twenty feet seems reasonable.
IF LEO’s cannot be filmed in public then justice demands that the public cannot be filmed in public, including all those traffic cams and street cams. Surveillance for me but not for thee?
Bad bill. If citizens interfere with cops while recording video of their activities, it should surely show up on the recording or on the officers recording as cops should be running a camera while on duty. Prosecution of the ones interfering should be a straight forward affair. Leave it at that.
I am all for it as long as it includes any Public Servant that makes a deliberate false statement during the course of their duties to be GUILTY of a FELONY!!
If you have nothing to hide, you should not be afraid of being filmed.
Ain’t this some s***.
I’m about at FU with this police state America.
Ok, upon reading this proposal, here's my take: The bolded part is fine. Everything else is suppression of civilian monitoring of police.
And these days, they need some monitoring.
Cops need to be reminded that they are the servants and not the masters.
Period.
Screw him.
I don’t think the video is the problem it’s the selective editing that sucks.
The legislation would require people to be at least 20 feet away while recording ââ¬Ålaw enforcement activityââ¬Â or farther if officers decide thatââ¬â¢s needed. Recording inside private buildings such as homes would be allowed from ââ¬Åan adjacent room or areaââ¬Â unless an officer objects.
Which is better, to "keep the peace" or "enforce the law"?
Now admittedly, there are times when enforcing the law keeps the peace. But, those seem to be fewer and farther between as police forces have become militarized.
I see nothing wrong with filming a public employee, in public, or in your own home. If the employee doesn't want to be filmed I would suspect one of two things. Either they do not know how to do their job or they want to do something they want to hide from the public.
We aren't talking about getting a camera 2 feet from the action. Anyone that does that during a crime is insane anyway and will probably be up for a crack at the Darwin Award.
