If Trump is Mentioning Cruz’s Canadian Birth, He Must Know He’s Going to Lose Big in Iowa

Actual Title shortened to fit: If Trump is Mentioning Cruz's Canadian Birth Again Then He Must Know He's Going to Lose Big in Iowa

I am amused that Donald Trump is once again reminding voters that Ted Cruz was born in Canada.

Before speaking at a rally on Monday night in Lowell, Massachusetts, Trump stated, "Republicans are going to have to ask themselves the question: 'Do we want a candidate who could be tied up in court for two years?' That'd be a big problem."

Yet it was only four months ago just as the two were to appear together at a rally on Capitol Hill opposing the Iran nuclear deal when Trump told reporters, "I hear it was checked out by every attorney and every which way and I understand Ted is in fine shape."

There are two ways to explain his statement. First, Trump didn't mean a word of it, but wasn't willing to insult Cruz to his face before the rally. Second, it must be remembered that at the time Trump was leading Cruz in Iowa by a 3-1 margin. Last September, Cruz was polling at 9% in Iowa.

Needless to say things have changed. It's been awhile since a poll has come out of Iowa, but I'm Trump's people are doing their own internal polling and he's probably doing very badly. Trump is afraid of being embarrassed by Cruz in Iowa. Why else would he suddenly now give a damn about Cruz being born in Canada when he wasn't 4 months ago?

There a lot of ways of looking at things.

Personally, I think Trump is doing Cruz a favor by getting the issue dealt with NOW rather than later.

I think after the Iowa Caucuses, we’ll see Iowa’s choice rejected by the rest of the country for the third straight cycle.

Whistling past the graveyard I see.

Don't sign up for the Trump Political Obituaries email list yet.

Oh and then there is this:

Author Bio:
Aaron Goldstein began his political life as a socialist. But following the attacks of September 11, 2001, he gradually embraced the wisdom of conservatism. He uses his poetic license (which has been suspended on numerous occasions) to write about politics, music, clam chowder and anything else he darn well pleases. Born in Canada, Aaron has lived in Boston for over a decade.

Translation = Goldstein has no idea WTF he's talking about.

You're welcome.

Personally I think Trump is only concerned if it hurts Trumps chances of winning.

If he was that concerned about it, he would have had a problem with it 4 months ago.

I don’t believe Trump thinks he’s going to lose Iowa big. I think he’s afraid he will lose Iowa small.

Cruz should be thankful. The press is asking him questions about birth certificates and such instead of whether Cruz is currently flipping or flopping this week.

YOU’RE the ‘messenger’, Goldstein is the ‘author’ and based on his own description of his background, I reiterate:

He doesn’t know WTF he’s talking about.

Now go consult with your fellow Trump-haters, you obviously need some pointers on how to smear the guy. This attempt was just another “FAIL”.

“You’re welcome”

I think Trump is doing Cruz a favor. Get it out there and dealt with before the general election. Otherwise, if Cruz is either the nominee or the VP on the ticket, you know the Democrats will get a lot of mileage out of it and their sycophant media buddies will pile on all the more.

Best we get this one behind us.

As far as Cruz winning Iowa, bully for him. I wish him well. But I think Trump is going to pull it out on account of all the new voters being brought into this. When you consider Santorum had less than 30,000 votes statewide in Iowa in 2012 and that Trump has pulled easily five times that many into his rallies over the past few months, you can see the potential there.

But the Cruzers are telling me that Ted has Iowa in the bag. He's got the greatest ground game since the '72 Dolphins and all Trump ever does is fly in on his big plane and speak to 10,000 people at a time. So what do I know.

Strategy says, shrug off Iowa and win the rest. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Persona, candidate image says that is “weak”. It goes against the persona he is trying to sell.

So Trump iappears desparate. This is a dangerous time for his campain.

He could blow it by being petty, vindictive and anxious.

Thanks for the education, YOU ARE so much wiser than I. I am humbled by your presence. I shall now shrink back to the shadows where the grammar Nazi’s will not attack me.

This is no favor by TRUMP.. TRUMP Is desperate. Better yet the desperation shows clearly for everyone to see.

Maybe The Donald won’t lose so very big in Iowa, as predicted, but the Iowa caucus has not been much of a reliable predictor of later electoral success in actual votes, not simply caucus settings, which are fluid up until almost the last moment before the caucus vote is taken.

Then again, there are decisions that go into the selections either at a caucus, or in the voting booth, that are the sum total of plenty of factors, some of which may not even get taken into account by the pundits and pollsters.

The real surprise will be when Bernie Sanders grabs off the lead from Herself, and sets into motion a whole series of rethinking and reconsiderations among the Democrats.
