On Tuesday, the Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District announced that all schools would be shut down today due to an unspecified terror threat. According to ABC News, that threat also carries “unknown credibility.†Bus drivers say they have been returned to their bus depots. LAUSD is the nation’s second-largest school district, with 640,000 students and 900 schools; children range from kindergarten to 12th grade.

I thought the same thing, Theo, but the intimidation process is the same whether the schools are useless as anything but warehouses so mommy can work or actually effective as schools teaching anything useful.
As long as our “leaders” insist on importing, subsidizing and coddling our sworn enemies we will have this type of thing and worse.

If true that would be a colossal stupid decision by a series of magnitudes...
This smells like a script kiddie with access to a German server (FrankFurt, Germany is a main IT hub that has Amazon Web Services as a major data center). He found the board member’s email, emailed him / her from that address. He crafted the email with elements from his own school. School board freaks out, doesn’t talk to IT and over reacts.

Heard conflicting reports that NY and CA were two different threats.
If this turns out to be a hoax with the school district ignoring the FBI and LAPD advice...Then again can LAUSD possibly get any more screwed up? Mad Magazine material.

“Based on the information that we have, this was a very generic piece of writing sent to a number of different places simultaneously and also written in a fashion that suggests that it's not plausible, and we've come to the conclusion that we must continue to keep our school system open,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said. “In fact, it's very important not to overreact in situations like this.”
