Republican leaders are currently thrashing about - holding secret meetings, issuing confidential memos and making public denunciations - as they approach a state of near panic over what Donald Trump is doing to their party. It's enough to make some believe that Mr Trump may not have the Republican establishment's best interests at heart.
Could Donald Trump be a secret double-agent, sent by Democrats to destroy their party from within?

In a word no. At this time I have no doubts that Trump would be the best choice nor do I doubt that he can win. Only an idiot would have not evaluated the other candidates before deciding. That means that there is someone whom I didn’t like as much for whatever reason but is the best of the other candidates by my reckoning. Absent a crystal ball you can’t rule out sickness, accident or crime so it pays to keep up on other possible candidates in case there is a need.
Nothing at all to do with doubt just prudence.

It's not so much that he's some conscious and committed Democrat agent, though.
It's more that he's not a serious, fully-committed Republican candidate.
The fear is that he's not focused and will be too easily distracted.
Or that -- like Perot -- he may be more interested in settling a score than in winning the election and governing.
Is reducing that concern to the "secret agent" idea in the headline the BBC's attack on Trump or on the Republican establishment?
