The press corps tends to go with the cheap, easy, and spoon-fed narrative. That narrative is that Karl Rove is opening doors and rolodexes for Ben Carson to stop Donald Trump.
That’s not it and people in the know, know it.
Carson is collapsing and his support is headed to Ted Cruz. In Iowa and elsewhere, Carson voters are toying with Cruz and Rubio. Rove wants an establishment guy.
On Bloomberg Politics With All Due Respect earlier this week, Rove listed Bush, Christie and Marco Rubio as the three candidates most likely to knock Trump off when “the other 70 to 75 percent of the party begins to coalesce behind somebody.”
Rove knows the odds are with Rubio as Bush is cratering and Christie has been moved to the kids’ table debate. But he has to worry that enough Trump and Carson supporters go to Cruz that it galvanizes the base toward Cruz. Immigration has become the galvanizing issue of the day and to much of the base Cruz trumps Rubio on that.
So Rove needs to keep Carson viable long enough to hold off Cruz. Don’t believe me? Look at the polling. Trump is holding steady at about 30%.
The [“other 70 to 75 percent” in Rove’s quote is a] reference is to Trump’s polling numbers. Though consistently leading the Republican pack since the summer, Trump has never been able to get much past the 30 percent mark in the polls tracked by Real Clear Politics.
Carson is starting to crash, Rubio is going up, and Cruz is going up. Cruz is going way up in Iowa and the Rubio camp has started firing shots at him on national security. It is just not a coincidence that now that this is happening, Rove is helping Carson.
If you have ever read Rove in the Wall Street Journal or listened to him on television, or for that matter read the Wall Street Journal editorial page, which worships Rove, all are consistently anti-Cruz and fear him as the nominee.
Rove helping Carson may superficially appear to be about Trump, but the reality is this is all about holding off a Carson supporter shift to Ted Cruz.
Yeah, like I said.
I’m not interested in a candidate supported by a liberal. I’ll stick with the Constitutional conservative.
As long as his face is allowed on Fox News and in articles that describe his efforts he does still have some power. Undeserved, unwarranted and dated as it is. All the same, he still has some power to influence the weak among our side and he should be stomped at every turn when he pokes that head out of his shell.
Like I said.
Trump is for American jobs. Nobody else.
Not even Cruz.
Oh, I totally support stomping his fat little behind.
I suspect, though, that Cruz will be the one doing it.
Conservatives’ problem with Cruz is that he hasn’t shown he can get moderates to support him!
He can’t win without them.
So what he has to do is win over moderates with his money and persuasion.
He’s got several months to do so. If he shows he can in the early primaries he could go all the way. If not...
I’m a Cruz man through and through. I am tired of fatboy shortpants Rove and his little whiteboard. I want him retired involuntarily and let grownup AMERICANS rule the outcome now.
And .. it tells me that my choice of Cruz (from before he even launched his presidential bid) was the right choice all along.
I appreciate Dr. Carson’s skill as a Doctor .. but his intuition about people is fatally flawed.
As I’ve said on another thread,I would love to make a wonderful soup, using Rove’s fat head. That thing would need to render for at least 12hours though.
There arent that many conservative people in DC so it is no surprise that she had previously worked for Senators DeMint and Cruz. She was no longer working for Cruz when she helped with the rating so your argument is completely frivolous.
Well Rove is a loathesome toad but I think backing Carson is a loser. His support is fading fast.
Let just take a look at Rand Paul, things get heated if we talk Cruz or Trump so let's talk Rand Paul.
The "chart" gives him a yellow on civil liberties. This is the same Rand Paul that filibustered the Senate over civil liberties and single handily killed the Patriot Act! And he gets a yellow?
He also gets a yellow on immigration, when this chart was produced his position on immigration was EXACTLY the same as Ted Cruz who gets a green on immigration, Bull S##t.
Yellow on moral issues? Just what are morals issues anyway. Paul is 100% pro-life and that is the biggest most important moral issue by far. Cruz of course again gets a green on moral issues since this "chart" was put together by Cruzs' campaign staff. The cart is bull crap.
From Senator Ted Cruz's website:
The American Dream - the idea that anyone, through hard work and determination, can achieve anything - is under assault like never before. Obamacare, an overreaching federal government, and out of control spending threaten the ability of small businesses and entrepreneurs to create jobs and innovate.
This has to stop and Ted Cruz has led the way to bring back jobs, growth, and opportunity to America.
Authored the Obamacare Repeal Act as his first piece legislation.
Led the fight to defund Obamacare - the largest regulatory challenge facing our nation which has resulted in killing jobs, cutting workers' hours, and causing millions of Americans to lose their doctors or health care.
Authored legislation to end taxpayer dollars subsidizing corporate fat cats, including the Ex-Im Bank.
Opposed the Renewable Fuel Standard ethanol subsidy.
Co-sponsored the Enhancing Educational Opportunities for All Act to expand school choice and make a quality K-12 education more accessible and affordable to low-income parents and students.
Authored legislation to expedite liquefied natural gas to support jobs, economic growth, and to stand united alongside our friends and allies in the face of Russian aggression.
Led the fight against regulating the Internet as a public utility because it threatens the Internet as a haven for entrepreneurial freedom and unlimited opportunity.
Set an early, high standard for meaningful Republican opposition to increasing the debt ceiling.
Demanded a 60-vote threshold vote on a clean debt-ceiling increase in February 2013, when Republican leadership wanted to allow the Democrats to raise the limit with a simple majority vote.
Insisted on a commitment from Democrats and Republicans in the Senate that the debt ceiling would not be increased as part of a deal to pass the budget.
Introduced the American Energy Renaissance Act to spur economic growth by harnessing our nation's energy resources and removing federal impediments to energy exploration, development and trade and empowering the private sector to create good-paying, American jobs.
Sued the federal government to strike down portions of the Medicare Prescription Drug program as an unconstitutional intrusion in the sovereign authority of the States.
Opposed the Obama Administration's Interior Department's moratorium on offshore exploration in the Gulf of Mexico.
Urged the U.S. Supreme Court to stop Congress from impeding commercial development of private property in a state for the protection of a toad in that state.
More of Ted's Proven Record:
OUR STANDARD: THE CONSTITUTION
STRONGER, SAFER AMERICA
LIFE, MARRIAGE & FAMILY
So Rove is trying to keep Cruz from catching Trump? And Trump is the anti-Establishment candidate?
I agree with that!
The Trump rally in Sarasota was one of his best.
Karl was probably only wishing he could do that with Jeb.
I don’t really think Carson can be rehabilitated at this point. An association with Rove takes away his outsider status.
I’m with you. It might be that trying to resurrect Carson will be the final nail in his political coffin. We can hope and pray, anyway.
I hate to say it, because babies are so innocent, but Rove always reminds me of the Gerber Baby.
LMAO!
Dude, that soup might blow up your arteries. You could reserve half the fat, get an oil-burning stove, and heat your house for a few years.
Outstanding post. Thank you.
I’m curious to see what the response will be.
I don’t see where Ted Cruz is for increased American hiring.
That is the one subject which really fires me up. Not medical spending, not abortion, but AMERICAN JOBS. American jobs, for American workers.
Where is Ted Cruz coming out publicly, for increased American hiring?
Where?
OH, LOATHSOME ROVE
Well, I was walkin' down a lonesome road
Through a Georgia pecan grove
When I saw a loathsome toad
Who said his name was Karl Rove
(CHORUS)
Look down, look down that lonesome road
Before you tread that zone
If you kiss that loathsome toad
He may turn you into stone...
(some things just write themselves, lol)

"This has to stop and Ted Cruz has led the way to bring back jobs, growth, and opportunity to America."
The response is what I expected. It's not possible to reason with you, because your obsessions are not based in fact. They are revolving tics that logic cannot and does not make a dent in.
"That is the one subject which really fires me up. Not medical spending, not abortion"
Yes, as established, your'e a liberal who loves Obamacare and doesn't care about abortion. Fortunately, however, thinking individuals are capable of dealing with more than a single issue.
