Red Star Falling: The Trumbo Train Wreck
PJ Media ^ | November 26, 2015 | Ron Radosh

Posted on 11/28/2015 6:30:45 PM PST by OddLane

When it was announced two years ago that Bryan Cranston would play Dalton Trumbo in a new movie about the late blacklisted Communist screenwriter, I wrote an article for National Review that asked a simple question: would the film be honest and portray Trumbo accurately, or would it perpetuate the myth of innocent and victimized Hollywood Reds?

Indeed, because of this piece, the producers and/or the publicity people of Bleecker Street Cinema claimed that I had “trashed the film” in advance and barred me from the screening, thus preventing me from writing about it for a national publication. One could say that Bleecker Street Cinema blacklisted me -- but we all know they are against blacklists...

The same holds true for all of the useful idiots who supported the USSR prior to World War II.

Pete Seeger and the Almanac Singers had their anti-FDR, anti-war album pulped once Germany invaded the Soviet Union.

"[Pete] Seeger was antiwar during the period of the Nazi-Soviet Pact; pro-war after the Soviet Union was the ally of the United States; and anti-war during the years of the Cold War and Vietnam. To Nichols -a rather dense left-winger -it is good form to acknowledge that perhaps 'Stalin was a bad guy,' and then simply get over it, and move on to campaign for very American socialist causes." --Ronald Radosh (former communist)

Milius was cheated by his friend and wrote the script for Clear And Present Danger ten years after Red Dawn.

Trumbo directed a movie by the same name in 1971.

Starred Timothy Bottoms...portrayed a veteran from WW1 with no arms, legs, eyes, nose, ears, etc.

Nothing to write home about, even with a couple of names from the time...Bottoms and Donald Sutherland, to name a couple.

I remember it mainly because Jimmah Cottah required his staff and a few senior officers and NCO's to watch it.

Wikipedia is the only source I've ever seen for it, other than IMDB.

Pretty much a bomb, as anti-war movies go.

I've read numerous articles and a few books about the Hollyweird commies (including Radosh's book of which I highly recommend), and I have little sympathy for the H-10. They took orders from an enemy gov., the Soviet Union, with the purpose of undermining the U.S. and the system it was built on.

So screw Trumbo and the rest of them. And screw the lib fraternity who covered up the truth about Trumbo and the H-10.

They come up with this type of film every few years to keep the myth alive and the truth under wraps. This is SOP.

What does “Trumbo” have to do with Tom Hanks?

He had no idealism, until, that was an idea, at some pre-adult intellectual “bend in the road.” It was about the sameness, and who was more powerful. The actual facts are omitted, to provide an emotional background for the non-difference between socialist-fascism and socialist-fascism. Hecky durn.

That was a reply to RaceBannon's post (#3).

And recall the silent response from the audience when Kazan was presented a lifetime award at an oscar show. One of the most notable sourpusses on camera was the worthless slug DeNiro.

I read the book before I headed off to Ft Benning in 83. Probably not the best read before going into the Infantry but it did give me a no holds barred look at the possible cost. I could see through the anti war politics but still it was a very powerful book.

The film provides the basis for the Metallica video “One”

The Dallas Morning News reviewer (who is a big lib transplant from San Francisco) gave it a glowing review, remarking about the “Red Scare” (Red Menace, in actual fact) being one of the “most shameful periods in US history.” What an idiot.

I remember that Oscar award where Nolte stayed seated......Ed Harris and Speilberg too but Speilberg clapped
Scorsese and DeNiro to their credit showed respect to Kazan as did Warren Beatty and Helen Hunt and Meryl Streep and Coppola

Hollywood is very urban and secular Jewish and sensitive and creative and other minorities all of which lead to a very high incidence of a cultural predisposition to leftism and progressivism and ambivalence at best or hostility at worst to Christians

It’s not new it’s just much much much less restrained.

The old studio bosses were just smarter and knew their audience

Speilberg and Katzenberg and Weinstein(a detestable man) amongst others like Michael Lombardo bankrolled or produced many targeted hits on Bush and GOP and war during Bush years and did so repeatedly even though they all bled negative financial return

And the same cabal of Anti traditional culture and anti conservative Christian studio folks will do it all over again against Trump or Cruz or Rubio

Mark my words

The old guys 50 years ago even though some were lefties woulda never done that

They feared pushback and losing money cause they remember being broke

It must have been a difficult role to play!
