Karl Rove: Mitch Daniels Would Be Great VP
Newsmax ^ | 11/25/15 | Bill Hoffmann

Posted on 11/28/2015 8:42:12 AM PST by jimbo123

Influential GOP consultant and policy adviser Karl Rove says former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels would be the perfect running mate for whoever wins the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

And at the very least, Rove adds in an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV, the GOP's vice presidential pick should be a Midwesterner to maximize the Republican ticket's drawing power.

"It would be good to have somebody from the Midwest. I've got an out-of-the-box idea for you, how about the former governor of Indiana, Mitch Daniels," Rove said Wednesday on "Newsmax Prime" with J.D. Hayworth.

"[He's] done an exemplary job serving in the Reagan administration, serving in the Bush administration, serving as an eight-year very successful governor of a Midwestern state.

"And is now taking a strong role in reforming our education as the president of Purdue University. Anybody would be well-advised to look at him as a VP running mate."

How about a Cruz-Susana Martinez ticket. Governor, female, Hispanic. That should do it.

Her name has crossed my mind. It's a good thing that the Republican Party has a strong bench, full of many capable governors and former governors.

The VP should offer a constituency or a balance that otherwise would be lost or could be questionable.

I agree. So who would bring something to the ticket to help unify the party and to add another constituency? If Cruz is the nominee, representing the more conservative wing of the party, who could do that? Christie? From the northeast. Dynamic speaker. Perhaps. Haley, Martinez? Female minority governors. Who knows? But that's what you kind of look for in a VP candidate.

What about Scott Walker???

Good thought. Cruz/Walker I could vote for in a heartbeat. Those were my two top choices going into this thing.

I’m not so sanguine on “balancing” a GOP ticket by putting a doctrinaire liberal in there. That is defeatism or punch pulling.

I’m thinking of Trump-Cruz and it might make sense just because Trump is goonish enough to provide covering fire for Cruz, while willing enough to learn that he would temper down some of his excesses. Though I freely confess that is just HTRN’s surmise.

I'm not suggesting a doctrinaire liberal like Pataki, or even a squishy compassionate conservative like Kasich. But someone at least overall conservative who could work with Cruz and bring something to the ticket to help win the election.

Something like a Cruz-Palin or Cruz-Bachmann might work. In a pinch, Cruz-Fiorina. Especially if Hillary is coming up. If a cat fight is coming up, the GOP now has a cat in the fight.

This is, if Trump does not get sufficient support to be #1. I think the story remains to be written and that Trump may still be in process of metamorphosis. But again that might just be me.

In 2011, Mitch Daniels seemed too henpecked by his Diva wife to declare his candidacy. Better ask the Missus first if she would 'let him' run.

Sort of... He did not run, and it was because of her, but it is because he didn't want her to relive her humiliation. She abandoned him, and their young daughters, to go play with her lover in CA for a few years. She eventually woke up, and he took her back.... but she didn't want that to be thrown in her face during the campaign (as we all know the MSM would do), and he once again deferred to what was best for his family. Some might call that a weak husband, others might think higher of him for it.

Mitch is very very good fiscally, and should be considered for other posts that get less limelight.

The only thing Rush could say about Kasich was “I remember when Kasich was a Conservative”.

Karl doesn’t know that he is so OVER.?

I'm guessing that he does and he's hoping that the donor class doesn't catch on for another year or two.

Thanks for explaining. I had forgotten the actual reasons he chose to stay out. She is right, all that dirty laundry absolutely would be re-hung out to dry in the public view. Especially for conservatives. They would have interviewed her former paramour:”Will you be voting for Mitch too?”
