Republican Trump drops 12 percentage points in poll: Reuters/Ipsos [Trump 30%, Carson 2nd with 11%]

U.S. presidential hopeful Donald Trump's support among Republicans has dropped 12 points in less than a week, marking the real estate mogul's biggest decline since he vaulted to the top of the field in July, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Trump was the favorite of 31 percent of Republicans in a rolling poll in the five days ended on Nov. 27. That was down from a peak of 43 percent registered on Nov. 22.

The dip follows criticism of Trump for comments he made in the aftermath of the Nov. 13 Paris attacks that killed 130 people and wounded hundreds more.

Following the attacks, Trump told an NBC News reporter that he would support requiring all Muslims within the United States to be registered to a special database, which his critics have likened to the mandatory registration of Jews in Nazi Germany.

Trump has also been criticized for flailing his arms and distorting his speech as he mocked a New York Times reporter, Serge Kovaleski, who is disabled.

Trump mocked the reporter as he defended his unsubstantiated assertion that during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, he watched on television as "thousands and thousands" of people in New Jersey cheered while the World Trade Center fell.

Still, Trump is not the only front-runner to slide in the latest survey.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has seen his poll numbers drift downward and now trails Trump by more than half, with just 15 percent of Republicans polled saying they would vote for him in the same Nov. 27 poll. As recently as late October, Carson trailed Trump by only six points.

Following Carson, Florida Senator Marco Rubio and Texas Senator Ted Cruz are tied for third place, with more than 8 percent each.

He’s still number one in a field that is thinning. I think Jindal dropped out most recently.

There are dozens of polls. They picked one that was an outlier high 42% and compared to another outlier low 30% and assert a drop of 12%.

Lol...and he’s still waaaay ahead (which they somehow don’t mention). The bias is palpable.

Watch the trend.

Cruz is not Ronald Reagan. Reagan was a 2 term Governor and tried once for the nomination and lost, then came back and won it.

Don’t even try to make this look like Reagan. Cruz is a less than one term Senator. Same as Obama was.

Cruz might be able to win the nomination, maybe. But he would not be able to win the general election.

That said, I would vote for him, but many others would not.

Like I said, Trump has class, and he wouldn't have come out and said that about someone he knew that was handicapped, so therefore, I think it's a pack of lies, this writer thinking the paper will stand behind him, which I haven't seen yet...

I don't care if Trump thinks Carly is ugly, and I don't care if he called Carson pathological, Carson is, and it's in his own books he has written...

I want someone who has the balls to stand up and fix this Country, that will undo all the crap that the muslim wimp in the Rainbow Hut has dumped on this Country; I want our Military taken care of, I want our Wounded Warriors taken care of; I want these illegal aliens OUT of this country, so AMERICANS can have jobs to feed their families; I want a lot of things for this Great Nation that I LIVE in, not some cesspool of what these ‘no goods sneaking’ in here came from and I certainly don't want ISIS in here, unless of course you don't care if they lob off heads of AMERICANS!!!

GO TRUMP ALL THE WAY TO THE OVAL OFFICE!!!

I agree, which is to say this is still awesome. Trump crushing everyone else in a poll that all the media-bots are sure to cite, without realizing that in his worst week in a long timer . . . HE'S A THIRTY FEAKIN' PERCENT.

When that sinks in, there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth with the anti-Trumpsters.

I don’t believe any “one” poll but believe them all, and the upshot of all of them, state, national, is that Trump is walking away with this.

As a former reporter I want to gather the facts. I believe the reporter was wrong to be dishonest about what he wrote, if Trump attacked him on that, then you wouldn’t see me on this thread bashing Donald’s decision to make fun of the mentally disabled. The problem is, that this reporter has written multiple articles on Trump, ones that include quotes given from Trump on the subject in these articles and as a reporter there are only two ways you get that on the phone or in person. With the number of articles written on Trump from this reporter, I’m inclined to side with the reporter. And why would Donald say, “You got to see this guy” and then holds his hand up in a gesture that mocks his disability? Even, if your premise is correct on Trump not knowing this reporter, making fun of someone’s disability is cold and unpresidential even if the reporter is a left wing jerk.

Meh, people should stop putting so much stock in this poll. It has negligible sample data to analyze.

Exactly, finally with the “Cruz surge” stuff. Cruz back to 8%. But of course, there never was a “Cruz surge” any more than there was a “Carson surge” or a “Fiorina surge.” These were all desperate attempts to derail Trump.

Oh I get it, you want the Trump campaign to collapse because you think it helps Cruz so you are peddling left wing talking point hoping to hurt Trump. Makes perfect sense now.

Chilling. Goebbels saying, no matter how we get the people to hate Jews, if they hate Jews we were a success.

And they were a success.

"Yes, that poll even has Carson beating her, which is NOT believable at all."

I think anyone that is not a convicted felon can beat Hillary.

I’ll take Cruz to crush the media, from Katie Couric to Chuck Todd he’s killing them and he doesn’t have to resort to personal attacks to do it. Trump on the other hand has to bash people over the head with a baseball bat to get ahead. That’s why he calls Iowa voters stupid, makes fun of menstrual cycles or compares his opponents to child molesters. If Trump takes a dive it’s Trump who will have had a hand in it along with the media.

Funny... this poll has always over inflated Trumps support so I was glad to see it finally fall back down closer to reality. As to how real Cruz’s surge is, well you will see that when he beats Trump in Iowa.

Well we’re right back to believing the reporter there aren’t we.

You readily admit he may have gotten those comments over the phone, but none the less you error on the side of the reporter.

If Trump did it, it’s gauche behavior. Nothing is putting me off supporting Trump this year.

Meaning, the polls that will actually determine the nomination, i.e., the primaries that will start in February. Let’s see after, say, March 15 how good Trump is at getting Republican primary voters to vote for him to be the party’s nominee.
