Republican Trump drops 12 percentage points in poll: Reuters/Ipsos [Trump 30%, Carson 2nd with 11%]

U.S. presidential hopeful Donald Trump's support among Republicans has dropped 12 points in less than a week, marking the real estate mogul's biggest decline since he vaulted to the top of the field in July, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Trump was the favorite of 31 percent of Republicans in a rolling poll in the five days ended on Nov. 27. That was down from a peak of 43 percent registered on Nov. 22.

The dip follows criticism of Trump for comments he made in the aftermath of the Nov. 13 Paris attacks that killed 130 people and wounded hundreds more.

Following the attacks, Trump told an NBC News reporter that he would support requiring all Muslims within the United States to be registered to a special database, which his critics have likened to the mandatory registration of Jews in Nazi Germany.

Trump has also been criticized for flailing his arms and distorting his speech as he mocked a New York Times reporter, Serge Kovaleski, who is disabled.

Trump mocked the reporter as he defended his unsubstantiated assertion that during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, he watched on television as "thousands and thousands" of people in New Jersey cheered while the World Trade Center fell.

Still, Trump is not the only front-runner to slide in the latest survey.

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has seen his poll numbers drift downward and now trails Trump by more than half, with just 15 percent of Republicans polled saying they would vote for him in the same Nov. 27 poll. As recently as late October, Carson trailed Trump by only six points.

Following Carson, Florida Senator Marco Rubio and Texas Senator Ted Cruz are tied for third place, with more than 8 percent each.

Reuters uses large margins and 5 day rolling averages. I tends to be misleading when looking at one day.

I hate to think that so many supposed conservatives care nothing for civil rights or having a president who doesn't mock his opponents...

Trump does not are for civil rights? I think you are mistaken. He mocks? Only when attacked with wrong narratives.

Perhaps you would like Jebbie or a reincarnation of Romney?

Any of the others would kill to be an 31%.

Likely just statistical noise.

The problem is for his opponent is that world events are moving in Trumps direction, as scary as those events are, they bolster his positions. And all of Trump’s opponents have no traction, with Carson still the number 2....which just defies all logic.

Thirdly, he still controls the media cycle/attention.

Below is a direct quote from the reporter who was mocked by Trump for his disability:

'Donald and I were on a first-name basis for years,' said Kovaleski.

'I’ve interviewed him in his office. I’ve talked to him at press conferences. All in all, I would say around a dozen times, I’ve interacted with him as a reporter while I was at The Daily News.'

I used to work with the disabled and it is a sensitive topic for me, I just think when someone does this it shows a serious character flaw. And I think Trump has a mean streak making fun of people's looks (Fiorina) or comparing someone to a child molester (Carson) I'm starting to think Trump is a mean dude and doesn't have the right attitude to be POTUS.

BTW what is the sense in polling non-voters in a primary?
And don’t knock Reuters they have been consistent in reporting Trump on top.

We never respond to polls or surveys at our place.

I’m sure there are many many more people who just ignore the phone or hang up on them.

Gotta love caller ID.

They said Reagan couldn’t win either, he had no chance he was a crazy actor, a cowboy who would go to war with the USSR. In recent polls it has shown that Cruz is beating Hillary and I believe he will communicate his conservatism to the people. I want to win, but I want to win with the most conservative candidate, there are other candidates besides Trump who can beat Hillary in the general.

A data base of potential terrorists is bad but a database full of gun owners is fine and so is strip searching little old ladies at the air port and listening to everyone’s phone calls and gathering their texts and e-mails. Give me a break. F all this nonsense.

"He didn't "mock" that reporter at all and even if he did, I'm glad that he did and the MSM deserve everything he says about them and more!"

That's where I am too, that dbag NYT reporter did hit piece after hit piece on Sarah Palin, screw him. "Even if it doesn't work I'd waterboard them anyway. They deserve it." Go Trump!

Not buying it.

That said, he's still at double the next candidate.

The reporter has NEVER said that he 1) interviewed Trump face to face ( on the phone, probably IF he even DID "interview" him at all ) 2)met Trump in person 3)is trying to create a storm in a teacup.

All YOU care about is bringing Trump down, which isn't going to happen.

Live by the poll, die by the poll.

The ones that show Trump leading by a wide margin are legit. The rest are not. < /eye roll>
