Smithsonian: Statue of Liberty was originally a Muslim woman

The Statue of Liberty was originally designed to be a Muslim woman, the Smithsonian Institution's magazine says.

An article on the government-administered museum’s blog, Smart News, claims one of the designers of Lady Liberty drew inspiration from monuments in Egypt and originally intended to construct a veiled female peasant on the Suez Canal.

The article cites historian Barry Moreno, author of multiple books about the statue, whose Islamic origins were also reported last week by The Daily Beast.

“Taking the form of a veiled peasant woman, the statue was to stand 86 feet high, and its pedestal was to rise to a height of 48 feet,” Moreno writes in “The Statue of Liberty.”

The design of the project was eventually altered to the Roman colossus who shines the light of liberty from New York harbor today.

I dunno... Lady Liberty always looked kinda butch to me. How do you know she really wasn’t a guy? Or maybe ‘’transgendered’’? You know how the Frenchies are when comes to sex, ooh la la, gay Paris and all that.

A veiled Muslim woman depicting liberty. Then they came to their senses and changed it.

Are we bending history that far to be politically correct?

Didn’t “Monuments in Egypt” predate Islam by 1000 years?

So what? She is Lady Liberty no matter what physical person she’s modeled after. Liberty is the antithesis of Islam. The beliefsbof the person she’s modeled after is of no consequence.

Yes. Neither of the factions mentioned are worthy of attaining/holding American citizenship.

President Trump will have a lot of cancerous cells to remove from the government.

How do they know what she believes? I’ve never heard her reported talking.

Wow. I think it might have even been that same issue of National Geographic that did it in for me as well.

The article making this claim is on the Smithsonian blog, which is simply another leftist media outlet, another case of lefties making common cause with Islamic culture, proving nothing except making a case that they are as ignorant and inbred as those ME muslims.

Do not subscribe to the Smithsonian magazine, unless you enjoy articles which do not cover the subject in the headline; like ‘new school’ writing - where having made a statement of interest, immediately begin writing about some distantly related point before expanding on that point in the last paragraph in the last column in the last few pages; like images of something else other than the subject at hand which is only briefly described; enjoy much sound and fury, but coming away no wiser; having less money in your pocket; losing minutes you can never recover.

Not sure magazine is even good to help start a fire in the fireplace ... I don’t have one so I cannot test that, nor do I have any fish to wrap, and never considered owning a bird. With that glossy paper, if I still lived somewhere with an outhouse, I could not use it there either ...

If Lady Liberty was a Muslim, then that must be a Koran in her left hand.

It is an insult to the holy Koran and the profit Mohammed (piss be upon him) to hold it in the same hand that is used to wipe after eliminating.

But then she is carrying a torch in her right hand which could be used to burn down churches and torture infidels.

Other possibilities...

She has spiked hair, so she might be a punk.

She is green, so she might be a space alien.
