I thought toilets were bad? So much so that they had to limit the amount of water they used.

1 billion people in the world don’t have modern toilets????that’s AMAZING progress....outhouses served humanity for centuries and did just fine....zillions of animals go potty on the ground and the world is better served because of it.

1.1 million households is a lot more than .04 per cent of the populationProbably inflated figures from those liberal progressives after promoting their new core math, or what ever you call it.
You know for them a 1000 looks like a million.

{^) When my four brothers and I were kids, we had a neighbor for awhile who'd let his dog loose very early in the morning and the dog would come and favor our lawn with a big steaming pile.
He was only half joking when he suggested to my mom that early some morning he should roust us kids out of bed and herd us over to that neighbor's lawn to return the favor five-fold.

My dad, that is!! He’s the one who was an early-enough riser to spot the dog!

Reminds me of the family who moved to Los Angeles and rented a house. When the plumbing plugged up they cut a hole in a closet and used that till they left.
Then there was a man who moved in a trailer near me. No septic system, so he cut a hole in a chair and used it outside in summer and inside in winter.
When they got busted for meth making, the trailer was so contaminated it had to air out for years before being taken apart and the ground scraped.

I’ve watched the Selling Alaska show where people go shopping for rural homes in that state. Lots of them have outhouses and still go for six figures.

Whoop-di-do. Does anyone here recall a party in college (or probably high school, for that matter) where countless people weren't pooping or peeing outdoors? Those lines for the bathroom were always brutal; better to find a bush, alley or next door neighbor's driveway.

Our neighbors never had in home plumbing until about a year ago. They used the outhouse in summer, and a 5 gal pale in the winter.
Their home smelled, literally, like $hit. Warm summer months that stench that soaked carpets, walls, etc just heated up and about made a person vomit.
Three generations lived there, until one of the kids had plumbing put in.
