Report: Senate Democrats may try to add gun measure to Syrian refugee bill

[..]This ignores the fact of how stupid terrorist watch lists are because they don't do the job the government claims they're supposed to. The Intercept (which isn't exactly a conservative or libertarian publication) got hold of the National Counterterrorism Center guidelines for putting people on watch lists last year. Some of these guidelines includes social media and what 'walk-ins' say, even if government employees are told not to use hunches.

So, yes, you might be on a terrorist watch list if you tweet, Facebook, or use other social media sites to post an article someone doesn't like. The rules are so vague that even those who might be criticizing or pointing something out for others to see could end up on the list. But the Democrats and their allies in the media are all in favor of passing a law keeping people on watch lists from getting guns.
Jim Geraghty at National Review has more on the problems with the watch lists.

Indeed, it's terrible for law-abiding Americans with no ties to terrorism to end up on some sort of government-run list of people under suspicion. Of course, that's precisely what has already happened; I wonder if Iftikha knows Ted Kennedy and the Weekly Standard's Stephen Hayes ended up on terrorism watch lists. This is one of the reasons many Republicans don't want to ban gun sales to people on the "terror watch lists" because there's little public disclosure about just how someone ends up on the "terror watch list" or "no-fly list" and once you're on it, it's exceptionally hard to get off. There is no independent or judicial review; once on it, you are guilty until proven innocent.

Please keep in mind that in the past the Obama regime hasn't been reticent about labeling Gun owners and those who support the 2nd amendment as Terrorists:

So it is easily within the realm of possibility that they would simply classify gun owners of the wrong sort as 'Terrorists' as an instant gun ban.

Our govt is far more concerned with the welfare of people living in countries that hate America than with Americans.

I’ll read the fine print later. But we want a bill that prevents Syrian Refugees from entering the country. The democrats want to add some language that doesn’t allow them to have guns either? lol

I bet not.

Hopefully Mitch McConnell will have the brains to not add that amendment.

But this is a prime example of how the Democratic National Socialist Party will use any crisis to disingenuously further their gun grabbing agenda.

Not only that, but they will turn around and use issues of terrorism to their advantage.

R-I-G-H-T.

I have a INALIENABLE Right to keep and bear arms. I also have a Right to my $$ and property (see 4th\5th). NOBODY has a Right to my life (see 13th) nor my property (see 5th) ala welfare. Compulsion of the latter is tyranny.

Which does govt (especially the Socialists) will uphold as valid? The WRONG side, of course.

So they can vote against Refugees and for gun control in the same vote? Why, that would be hearless! Think of all those 3 year olds and widows that are trying to escape the violence in the Middle East.

Sarcasm

That explains the left’s unwillingness to narrow terrorism to Islam, they really want to war with us!

The GOP should double down and add language that includes EVERY one in this country illegally - we want their name, address, and cell phone number. See if the Rats vote for that.

And each election the voters say, via their votes, that they wish to be ruled by Democrats. The good people of LA. as recently as last week made that decision. Two things are in place here: 1. They [the voters] are stupid and should not be allowed to vote. Or 2. They don’t give a damn for their lives or the lives of their families.

The Democrats want to amend the bill to ensure it can't pass. They're not stupid. They know the public is against bringing in Syrian refugees. And then when it doesn't pass, they want to be able to blame Republicans.

It's actually a bit of clever maneuvering.

Sections 3.3 and 3.6 read like total nonsense.

We are so screwed by the apparatchiks in DC.

"As we speak, a terrorist on the FBI's terror watch list can walk into a gun show in your hometown and buy as many AK-47s and explosives as they need to commit the kind of mass, heinous slaughter of innocents we witnessed in Paris and which we know terrorists want to perpetrate here in America," Reid said Friday.

The same old lies. No, Harry, they can't. Explosives and full-auto AK's are not available at gun shows. They simply aren't, anywhere, ever.

Yes, those are bereft of any kind of due process protection, one could themselves on those lists (and deprived of their rights) for the most trivial of reasons.

What's to stop the Democratic National Socialist Party from labeling gun owners as terrorists and taking away their common sense civil rights?

If Obama doesn't have to follow the law why should anyone else?
