The University of Vermont held a three-day retreat so students who “self-identify as white†could confront their own “white privilege.â€
“Examining White Privilege: A Retreat for Undergraduate Students Who Self-Identify as White†took place last weekend, November 13-15, and was “specifically for white students.â€
According to the university, the self-identifying white students who attend the retreat will come to “recognize and understand white privilege from an individual experience†and have the opportunity to “conceptualize and articulate whiteness from a personal and systematic lense as well as the impact of white privilege on the UVM community and beyond.â€
The self-identifying white students also tackled tough questions such as “What does it mean to be white?†and “How does whiteness impact you?â€
The university website features testimonials from past attendees of the retreat, who praised the way the event was a “safe space.â€
According to the school’s website, the University of Vermont offered the retreat at no cost to its privileged white students, covering all expenses including meals. The retreat was hosted at the Common Ground Family Center in Starksboro, Vermont. The center advertises its use of solar power and “green construction projects†on its website, and offers its services for everything from family reunions to civil unions.
The University of Vermont does host a retreat for “women of color†as well but it focuses on building leadership rather than confronting one’s own privileges. Aside from the women of color retreat, the university does not appear to offer similar race-specific retreats.
Additionally, the university’s Center for Cultural Pluralism recommends various readings for its students, including "The Invention of the White Race," "White Privilege, Male Privilege in Race, Class, Gender," "The Feminist Classroom," and "The Abolition of Whiteness."

I was taking class to finish off my degree and recently have just stopped.
I was learning nothing though I had a GPA of 3.75. It is all about making money and brainwashing young kids.
Nearly class I was the oldest, older than some Professors and I have never seen a bunch of self absorbed people in my life.

Let me get this straight. In the interest of “Diversity” students “of color” are admitted with SAT’s scores that would guarantee a white student would not be admitted and yet the whites who are admitted are the beneficiaries of “White Privilege”. I suppose this all makes sense to left wing academics but it sure baffles me.
Hmmm. Looks to me like their families ought to reject the kids or as I like to call them UNGRATEFUL SNOTS. Sadly, some of the families might just “self identify” with the goals of the get away too. (”I’m so ashamed of having worked hard all those years not knowing I was unknowingly crushing some minority because of my whiteness”) GMAFB! Idiots!
Yep, college students are seriously that brainwashed. Indoctrinated, specifically. Thank public schools+unions, Dept. of Ed., media, fatherlessness and, primarily, The Frankfurt School (whose minions brought us consensus building and sensitivity training).
What about the black student “Oreos” who are black on the outside, but “white” inside? Do they suffer from “white supremacy” too?
Should they self-select to attend this conference as well?
Dirty little secret that the radical types do not want known - when persons who are Americans of African descent assume and apply the mental discipline exhibited by successful white people, their degree of success in life rises to about the same level as the white people they emulate. This is not being “Uncle Tom” or “Aunt Jemima”, it is pursuing the American Dream, which was and is open to everybody who put in the time, discipline, effort and yes, the love, to achieve these realizations of potential.
Yet, oddly enough, there is a sharp prejudice within the African American community against any of their members who begins acting “too white”. There is a concerted effort to drag the overachiever back down into the same level as the others.

(In the 2000 census for the first time the Clinton administration allowed identification as belonging multiple racial/ethnic groups. The family lore (since confirmed by 23andMe) was that I have some Latino and some Indian blood. I checked off most -- or almost all -- of the boxes on the 2000 census form. For 2010 my wife grabbed the form, filled it out and mailed it back before I even discovered that we had received it. I think she was afraid that an Obama Department of Political Correctness SWAT team would arrest us and send us off to Political Reeducation Camp. I can now prove, it, and if I had the chutzpah of Elizabeth Warren when I applied to colleges, I could be a full professor at Harvard today! Admittedly, I look more like Custer than Sitting Bull but I'm becoming more and more convinced that "race" is an outmoded 18th century concept.)
I believe obama, blm, and guilt ridden, suicidal, self loathing liberals are for “The Abolition of Whiteness.”
Privileged? Educated via the public school system, above average intelligence, multi talented(self taught)earned income via 2-3 jobs at one time makes me privileged because I am white? I got up and went to earn after I learned, you don’t have to be white to do that, you have to get off your lazy a$$ and be motivated. Most whites have what they have because they worked their a$$es off to get it.
If you look at your skin, and it’s white, it’s bot privilege. It’s not a point of shame. You were born that way.

What’s it mean to be a white 55 year old man? It means in order to get a job I must walk in apologizing for all of the ills of the world.
Do white liberals not understand how completely racist and condescending this is to those of us that are not white?

I’ll never forget going through the interview process for a job that I really wanted.
I was not long out of college and went through a series of FOUR INTERVIEWS, profile tests, etc. It was a job in an industry that I really wanted.
The man that interviewed me was honest and said to me, “I really wanted to hire you. I thought you were the best candidate but home office says I need to hire a minority.” That’s what my “white privilege” got me. They hired someone less deserving.
Obama is a beneficiary of “1/2 White Privilege.” With his academic background, he would have never been accepted into Harvard Law School if he didn’t apply as black. The Islamic name helped him too. The faculty at Harvard dismissed all their previous methods of choosing a president of the Harvard Review so they could select a black. They had never had a black as president of the Review so obama benefited from his “1/2 white privilege.”

They are clueless. And it isn’t their fault. No one will stand up to them and tell them outright that they are moronic bullies, whose only goal in life is to get even with the people they perceived over the course of their miserable lives as hurting them in some imaginary way.
When hiring, I now ask what activities the candidate participated in while he/she was in college. There is nothing wrong with this and it gives insight into how they actually managed their time.
Funny though. When I broach this topic, the liberal feels the need to lie about it while the conservative proudly states what they did.
That’s all I need to know.

I’m a white 55 year old man. I don’t apologize for anything. If anything, when confronted by my lib friends I flat out call them idiots, but idiots I love dearly.

I don’t self-identify as white.
I self-identify as American. I self-identify as human. I self-identify as a father and husband. Anyone whose self-identity is based on race needs to look at the content of their character (and everyone else’s) and not at the color of their skin (or of anyone else’s).
