How does whiteness impact you?

Well, I was ineligible for several scholarships, and didn't get bonus points on the ones open to everyone, so I pretty much had to pay for college through military fed/state TA, and the rest on my own. That crap is expensive, especially when you can't get free money just because you aren't white!

I’ll never forget going through the interview process for a job that I really wanted.

I was not long out of college and went through a series of FOUR INTERVIEWS, profile tests, etc. It was a job in an industry that I really wanted.

The man that interviewed me was honest and said to me, “I really wanted to hire you. I thought you were the best candidate but home office says I need to hire a minority.” That’s what my “white privilege” got me. They hired someone less deserving.

Obama is a beneficiary of “1/2 White Privilege.” With his academic background, he would have never been accepted into Harvard Law School if he didn’t apply as black. The Islamic name helped him too. The faculty at Harvard dismissed all their previous methods of choosing a president of the Harvard Review so they could select a black. They had never had a black as president of the Review so obama benefited from his “1/2 white privilege.”
