At this point we could probably use a second blog to do nothing but stories about college campuses and the activities of the special snowflakes who are going to create safe space homes for themselves there. The story coming out of Vanderbilt this week might have been shocking in years past, but by now it’s just a footnote to the daily rap sheet. The students at this esteemed university, having seen the “success” of their fellow seekers of knowledge at Mizzou, are looking to give the boot to one of their professors. Her crime? Penning an editorial many months ago suggesting that we might be having a problem with Islam. (TaxProf)
At Vanderbilt, many minority students have in recent days renewed a push for the university to take action against Carol Swain (right), a tenured professor of political science and law, over a column she wrote in January after the terrorist attacks in Paris against the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
In the January column, Swain asked, “What would it take to make us admit we were wrong about Islam? What horrendous attack would finally convince us that Islam is not like other religions in the United States, that it poses an absolute danger to us and our children unless it is monitored better than it has been under the Obama administration?”
Many students and others said that the column stereotyped all Muslims in a way that was profoundly biased, but the university defended Swain’s right to free speech.
For the umpteenth time, I’m not saying it’s time for us to burn down the universities, but…
It seems that part of the problem here is that the president of Missouri University has opened the door to what is turning into a rolling disaster. By effectively shutting down a long established center for higher learning and using the football program (along with all the money it brings) to blackmail the administration into throwing some high profile sacrificial lambs under the bus, they established a template. Now students at other colleges have seen the “success” that’s been achieved and all of the wonderful media attention it brings, so everyone has to jump on the bandwagon.
None of this answers the far more pressing question of what these kids plan on doing for a job if and when they finally graduate and go out into the real world. There are no “safe spaces” beyond the walls of your own home (or your mom’s basement in the cases of many of them I’m guessing) where you are assured protection from being offended or hearing ideas which differ from your own. And you certainly will never have the right to make any such demands in the office when you go to work unless, of course, your job is at the university you previously shut down.
If we need some icing for this particularly obnoxious cake, let’s close with one more story being reported by MRC. I’m not even going to preface this one because the face palm meter has shattered the needle.
Black Students at Cornell Protest a Pro-Black Protest Led by White Students
An organized protest at Cornell University supporting racial equality has been canceled after a black student group complained about the “lack of people of color in the planning and attendance” of the event, which appears to have been organized by a white student.
The group also stated that “although” the members appreciate “the solidarity and interest of our allies,” the organization would like to address prejudice “in [their] own way.” They then suggested that individuals who would like to show support for black causes should ask in advance for the organization’s approval.
So… that happened.
Good grief ...start kicking out some of these jerks.
Not a surprise for Vandy.
This is evidently worse to them than rape on their campus.
As ridiculous as this is, I have to admit that I am feeling schadenfreude over the monster liberals have created.
Liberals are eating their own and all conservatives need to do is hold their coats.
They need some muscle from the rapists, oops I mean football players, to force that guy out of there.
If they already know everything, why are they in college?
LOL
Interesting that those who eschew the use of the perjorative ni**er continue to exemplify the concept of ni**er.
Corporal punishment is required
As entertaining as some see this shitshow, let’s hope and pray that it doesn’t spread beyond the campuses.
It’s like watching the antics of the insane in an asylum.
These profs are getting a taste of how Robespierre felt when the mob turned against him, and Trotsky when his brand of communism was replaced with Stalin's. Sometimes the monsters you create come back and kill the creators.
This story indicates that there is at least one professor on Vandy’s campus that is able to express a semi-conservative thought. Wow!
These ideologues are terminally blind. They will take us all to the brink and beyond.
They must be put down now, while it’s still possible.
The first step in removing the 4 Olds...
Now, just exactly who is the new Mao?
Buy a one way ticket to Iran
I saw her on Fox today. She has more b**** that those two at Missouri!
I think it is time to burn down the universities. I don’t see any hope.
Well, in the case of public universities, the Regents (or whatever the analogue is called in each of the several states) could largely fix the problem by trimming the number of administrators by about 30% (most of the institutionally supported rot like lists of “microaggressions”, “sex positive” orientation activities and the like comes from administrators, not faculty) including all with positions that have the word Diversity or Multicultural in their title and all that have more than one adjective (e.g. Associate Vice) at the front of their administrative title, and shutting down all departments and programs with names of the form [affirmative-action-beneficiary-group] Studies.
But it's going to take more than that. The rot is too ingrained.
