Conservatives Have the Ability to Fight The University Left, So Let's Do It
National Review ^ | November 12, 2015 | David French

Posted on 11/12/2015 5:58:31 PM PST by JSDude1

America’s universities are becoming a fundamentally toxic presence in our national culture. Possessing every possible advantage — a young, disproportionately wealthy base of students who come from disproportionately intact and functional homes, generations of goodwill accumulated through centuries of community influence, and vast economic power through endowments worth cumulatively hundreds of billions of dollars (the top ten endowments alone are worth more than $150 billion) — they have squandered these assets in efforts to create a leftist utopia, a “utopia” that could well tear this nation apart. Make no mistake, while universities preach social justice, equality, and racial harmony, they practice lawlessness, exploitation, and racial strife, creating an environment that is simultaneously sexually decadent and intellectually repressive, causing real harm to countless thousands of Americans. Many students are capable of keeping their heads down, building friendships, and graduating with a good experience and a good education, but they thrive despite the university culture, not because of it. The true (and intentional) product of contemporary — especially “elite” — university culture is the social-justice warrior, the SJW, the hyper-sensitive petty tyrant who would rather wreck our republic than abide even the mildest dissent. Is there a more lawless entity than the American higher-education establishment?

WE Absolutely MUST take back the universities and primary education in this nation to even make a dent in the Democratic domination of many areas! Please Republican governors, make this a priority!!

I’ve been swinging this hammer for years but conservatives skip those races on their ballots.

Good luck.
It’s been thus since ‘65 or earlier.

Better to let them self destruct then start over from scratch.

His conclusion from the bottom of the article:

Conservatives possess the power of the federal purse. Conservatives possess the power of the state purse in most states. Millions of conservative parents help guide (and pay for) their kids’ college choices. Given this reality, helplessness and impotence are a choice. It’s time for a cultural and political war against the intellectual and legal corruption of the university Left. Which GOP presidential candidate will fire the first shot?

Let them fail. All the kids can then go to vocational school and really learn something.

The link gives me a blank page at 8:08 PM CST. Indeed, so does the root domain main page.

Anyone else having this problem?

I agree. Why fight? Encourage the stupid Dem useful tool students to keep acting out! Put a few hundred snooty professors out of work and at worry for their own safety. I don’t see a down side.

These stupids at Yale and Mizzou,,the students,,think they are creating a movement..like what they are doing has never been done before. They are arrogant and brain-washed. Let them do themselves in. The institutions they attend are not, repeat, are NOT worth saving.

some day, maybe in my lifetime,, a college education may actually MEAN something again, other than Spring Break youtube BS.

Pull all donating

Write alumni associations, boards of regents, et al to clean house on faculty and subject students disrupting campus activity to explusion

Protest all racist “resignations” of white professors, deans, et al

Stop all racist hiring, scholarships, admissions and quotas

Boycott sports events, return tickets, fail to renew, sell tickets . . and let the Athletic Directors know

Easiest way to do that is cut federal subsidies of education.

College today for many folks is nothing more than day-care with sex and alcohol.

Cut the money and colleges will be forced to stick w/programs people actually need. Basket-weaving, Maoist in disguise, degrees will go away because there won’t be students looking for the do nothing degrees.

I think every student has a right to demand what they want to be taught when they are paying the “Professor”... after all....they already know more then the professor and the professor should be grateful for “THEIR” money....../s

Universities get federal dollars.

They either come into compliance with a roughly 50/50 political leanings rule, or stop receiving federal dollars.

We do control both sides of Congress. We could at least force Obozo to veto it until Trump signs it into law.

Board of regents for both U of M and MSU are on my ballot every election.

While students at other schools were protesting yesterday, students from Hillsdale college were planting crosses bearing the names of fallen soldiers in the lawn of the Hillsdale county courthouse.

The best way is to get the universities attention is some outright nastiness from the alumni. The time for civil discourse is over. When the universities send out the begathon letters to the alumni, the response should be “SOD OFF!” Tell them why. Tell them that any resumes from certain graduating classes shall be tosses. And don’t be kind about the language. The universities are now the enemy.

The only way to "take the universities back" is to burrow from within as the Left has. Fortunately, they are extremely easy to mock and becoming easier by the day. They're afraid of the few cantankerous scholars who are conservative and not afraid of them, and the truth will out if the right side is patient. But to hell with that. I'd like to suggest that impatience may not be an altogether unjustified sentiment.

When we see the carnival of anti-truth, anti-scientific, anti-intellectual nonsense that is currently pervading the academic scene it simply isn't that hard to compete. Only brute force is keeping these idiots in their chairs at this point, and despite the cheapening of academia through the elevation of journalism schools and Grievance Studies programs, their graduates are finding that a career fleecing the public is really the only one open to them. And they know it. A PhD in Gender Studies and a PhD in Physics are not the same thing and only a grand game of make-believe has them both claiming the title of "Doctor".

There always has been this heavy component of fluff in the academy and always will be. It has always been the sanctuary for upper-class twits, and now New Class twits, both of which lamentable coteries intend to rule rather than to understand. Some of these pay the bills and so call the tune; with the advent of public universities none of that has changed. The taxpayer may pay the piper just as the yeoman used to but it is the politician, as ever, who distributes the largesse. This appears to be structural, and a reset involving Dr. Guillotine the most direct and far too occasional recourse of a host organism that has finally had enough of the parasite. The Tree of Liberty is just as thirsty there as everywhere else, and watering time may be nigh.

State legislatures should eliminate tenure at state universities and require all professors to teach at least 4 classes per term. Give them a full teaching load and there is less time for activism plus fewer professors are needed. The days of the “name” tenured professors teaching one graduate level seminar per semester should be over at tax supported institutions. Teaching is the primary mission, not worthless research and publishing.

In addition, states must slash administrative budgets. The bureaucracies in higher education have exploded over the past 25 years. Slash administrative payrolls by 25% and tell the $600,000 university presidents to figure out where to make the cuts without affecting operations. Those of us in the corporate world who have experienced waves of arbitrary downsizings know it can be done. Put some of those business school eggheads to work putting their theories about efficient operations to work.

Stop constructing buildings that honor rich alumni but are expensive to maintain. Schedule and utilize existing structures more efficiently. Yes, classes can meet in empty athletic field houses, cafeterias when meals aren’t being served, and administrative conference rooms.

Don’t hire their graduates....period.

That’s how you get them. Let it be known that their graduates won’t get jobs.

Get rid of government controlled school loans. Revert to private loans with no restrictions on who they can’t turn down. Lenders can employ ANY criteria they choose. When rich libs complain point out the many ways they can subsidize those they deem deserving with their own $.
