What is GIST, if I may ask?

Here's one definition:

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are uncommon tumors of the GI tract. These tumors start in very early forms of special cells found in the wall of the GI tract, called the interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs). ICCs are cells of the autonomic nervous system, the part of the nervous system that regulates body processes such as digesting food. ICCs are sometimes called the “pacemakers” of the GI tract because they signal the muscles in the digestive system to contract to move food and liquid through the GI tract.

More than half of GISTs start in the stomach. Most of the others start in the small intestine, but GISTs can start anywhere along the GI tract. A small number of GISTs start outside the GI tract in nearby areas such as the omentum (an apron-like layer of fatty tissue that hangs over the organs in the abdomen) or the peritoneum (the layer of tissue that lines the organs and walls of the abdomen).

Indeed. My wife has been battling breast cancer for 18 months. Two surgeries and 5000 RADs of radiation are keeping the beast at bay. I'm not out of the woods. Every colonoscopy has been a harvest of polyps. Last round in Sept 2013 a polyp was clipped over a blood vessel. Ten days later, the scab pulled the blood vessel open. It was harrowing night sucking down 4 liters of "Golytely" to prep for an emergency colonoscopy to stop the bleeding. My BP dropped to 91 over 47. Almost needed more blood. I've been reticent to expose myself to another colonoscopy, yet I know that no doing so will find my the topic of this sort of thread.

Let us all genuinely pray for America and our way of life according to our faith and our Constitution. We must stop the serious erosion of our freedoms. God’s word is available to us and most do not read it much, if ever.

Prayers are our connection to God. Let us trust the LORD. If America is to aid the world we must stand on the values that made us great. Forgive us LORD for our transgressions, we know not what we do. In Jesus name we pray Thank Thee Father for life , liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Praise, honor glory are thine ever. amen.

Hi All,

Sorry for the extended wait, but we just got most of the biopsy results today instead of Tuesday. We did meet with my GP this afternoon and got some news. Will meet with the oncologist tomorrow at three for the gorier details I guess. We spent almost an hour with him and walked through the CT scan, and the endoscopy photos and he answered every question we could think of, so I definitely feel a lot better and more informed about the whole thing. We still are in the info gathering stage, but We know what it is at least. For one thing there is only one tumor, not two as it appeared to be in the CT scan, so thats good news.

Bad news it's a Adenocarcinoma and if given the chance it does like to spread, so either Friday or Saturday I'll get a PET scan to find out if it's localized or is making the rounds.

Just an FYI We are at the Baylor Med Center in Mckinney. (But I'm still home and will be heading to work in the AM for a half day site inspection.)

Thanks all for the the continued prayers! Need another round looks like for just a localized area and not everywhere or anywhere else! God's got his handled, so we are just along for the ride. Will touch base again when we get the bottom line in a day or two. Bless you all, and thank you.
